Bonjour les athlètes! Mon dieu! C’est Magnifique comes to mind when I think of Nice, with its turquoise blue Mediterranean water and its endless stretch of beach.
To me, Nice conjures up memories of the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock film ‘To Catch a Thief’. The setting could have been anywhere, but I am glad Mr. Hitchcock filmed it in the French Riviera, including the cities of Cannes, Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Saint-Jeannet. When I received the opportunity to provide logistics in Nice for Ironman events, I was thrilled as I would be able to explore the area that has mesmerized me since I saw the movie. In 2024, it will be my 5th trip to Nice and I look forward to sharing the city with you.
In 2019, I hosted my first group at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in which we also presented a ‘Breakfast with Bob’ session. The 4-star oceanfront West End was our group hotel; walking distance to the start/finish, but far enough from the chaos of Ironman race week. The activities for race week included sea-kayaking at Plage de Bastides secluded beach, walking through Monaco and visiting a few medieval villages. But the highlight was the bike course tour which was up and down the mountain. A bus and a truck (for bikes) transported 80+ athletes to the peak and let them ride their bike downhill. Post-race, many athletes sent me thank you messages stating that the bike ride downhill really helped them with the race.
In 2024, we are back in Nice at the West End Hotel and ready to support all the women who qualify for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships. I hope you can join us for September 17 – 23 for a fun filled week in Nice.
