Sunday vibes! What are you cooking up today? One of life’s great pleasures, which is amplified in France, is the time taken, respect given and enjoyment from . In the we are spoilt for choice. 1. The first picture- not just any old greengage jam but greengages picked from our orchard and being made into “our own” jam to be eaten with a crisp baguette made that morning with a load of delicious salty butter. 2. grown just 90 mins away and being eaten on the terrace with the most incredible views. 3. Wild plums- just hanging out in a scrappy hedgerow in our garden BUT they make the most exquisite jam ( looks like a plum- tastes like cherry!) 4. Apricot tart - you can pretend you made it but just pick it up, freshly baked, from the , 5. Finally cheese - just a sample of the oodles of choice and giving rise to the “ French lunch”. And, we have only just touched the surface.

The chateau has beautiful grounds. Although in the small village of Carsac de Gurson, the chateau sits on top of the hill, so the views are spectacular. There’s also acres of grounds to explore, with lakes, an orchard and wild meadow. This is our youngest, making use of the space and the wind! It reminds me of a real life

The ancient chapel of St Peter started as a Roman construction but had a grand renovation to celebrate the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry II in the 1100s. Their respective heraldic symbols, although faded, sit above the very traditional arched door. , a relative newcomer in 1775, was the presbytery for the chapel. Now the chapel provides a glorious back drop to the north facing rooms ( picture 1) and the tower presides over the swimming pool ( picture 3) , with a frolicking climbing rose framing the wall ( picture 2). It is spectacularly atmospheric with real factor. As if to ground the view in the ancient history even more, southwards across the valley features the ruined , now a privately owned vineyard where donkeys climb the ramparts 🫏

Summer in Ville Franche de Lonchat. This is one of our next door villages and they decorate the square for day. There is a night food market every Friday where you can buy food and wine, and then you can enjoy eating it at long tables in the square. It is wonderfully atmospheric.

Back in France and as gorgeous and tranquil this view is, the reality is that we’ve got a whole heap of scaffolding up as they repair the roof. So views from the house are of wood and steel. However, the lake is still doing its thing.

The chapel is rarely used now but is still maintained and cared for by our neighbours. It remains open everyday, all year round. It’s bells still chime to remind the workers in the fields that it’s time for lunch. It is very much a part of the village and its presence is felt daily and has been since it was constructed in 12c. It is engraved with the crests of Henry Plantagenet and Eleanor Aquitaine to celebrate their marriage.

It takes a village… last years at our friend and neighbours vineyard. About 100m ftom The red grapes this year have been badly affected by the mildew but the white grapes will be harvested at the end of the month. If you are lucky enough to be renting during the harvest, you take a look or even lend a hand. The more the merrier. The sense of anticipation is palpable cheers!! 🍷🍾

Hello lovely friends …
I hope you are enjoying a glass of rosé this bank holiday weekend. The first photo was taken in the fantastic vineyard of where if you fancy splashing out, you will eat the most fantastic meal in the most incredible setting. It was stunning! The second photo, was taken at Gruissan which is 3 hrs south of . We went on a little road trip to visit the salt flats and then into Carcassone. The wine matched the sea and it was quite the view to enjoy the spectacular seafood.

The lovely old roof of highlighted beautifully by the vibrant green of the hedgerows in the terraces below. The chateau sits in top of a hill. It’s great for views and a breeze but not so great for cycling up. 🥵
