The Victoria Falls Bridge Side Server is a wonderfully designed piece created by Richard Lowe to compliment the Victoria Falls Bridge Table. The elegant arched beam connects angled legs to support the suite of drawers below the beautiful Zambezi Teak top. Both can be viewed in our Victoria Falls Collection here >> https://bit.ly/3UYLwBa

July was an exceptional month for Art of Africa. Travel is back with a contagious energy and attitude for adventure. From multi-generational art tours at the village, to bachelor parties at the Palm River Hotel, to painting with the elephants at the Wild Horizons Wallow, we certainly covered the spectrum of creativity. This also means employment and revenue for local artists and residents. Art and travel for the win!

James Robert Halsted is the Managing Director of Halsted’s Aviation Corporation (HAC). At 44 years of age, James has successfully built an outstanding organisation that sits proudly at the top of the aviation industry in southern Africa.

As a former pilot himself, James knows the private charter business thoroughly, and his experience and commitment to provide the ultimate service is evident in everything he does. Both HAC and its sister company, ACE Air and Ambulance Remote Rescue, are internationally accredited by Eurami and IAG. Halsted's Aviation Corporation maintains rigorous standards in compliance with regulations and standards set forth by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe.

A graduate of Falcon College in Zimbabwe and Stellenbosch University in South Africa, James brings his business prowess, personable charm, impeccable manners and good-natured wit to the table, literally. He is always accessible to any and all employees and encourages and rewards them respectfully.

“At HAC, we have achieved our successful status as a result of our esteemed crew and members of staff, who continue to make us proud to fly the HAC name. We remain, as always, committed to safety and compliance and strive to maintain our reputation as a leading aviation organisation in southern Africa. I am so honoured to sit at the top of such a dignified group.” James Halsted, Managing Director

Over four decades after they became extinct locally, rhinos are roaming again the wilds of Mozambique, which is bringing the endangered species from South Africa in efforts to breathe new life into its parks and boost local tourism.

“Storm Over Devils Cataract”
(oils on canvas)

Long but urgent read, what are your thoughts on what it happening?
Please help support this awareness by sharing.

This painting depicts the end of the rainy season when part of the swollen Zambezi river plunges over Devil's Cataract.
A cauldron of white water drops into the gorge below, partly obscured by heavy spray . A grey blue storm sky accentuates the wild power of the place.

The scene is framed by heavy overhanging vegetation, unimpaired by buildings, development and human activity. It is what people pay substantial amounts to come and see, a natural phenomenon, shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Grave concern exists that a tourism company apparently has now obtained access to the unspoiled Cataract Island, an activity that has been strongly opposed . Some years ago a petition drew over 17000 signatures in opposition to exploitation and commercialisation of this unique island.

For further factual reading on the situation:

Author: Peter Roberts

As noted in the above article :
*There are concerns that activity here will add to the numbers of tourists visible thus detracting from and impacting on visitor experience and the viewing of a natural phenomena.

*Cataract Island is a fragile environment that sustains unique ground vegetation vulnerable to human traffic.

*Another tourism company were previously awarded this site but thankfully turned it down because of environmental and visual impact concerns.

These wild, untouched places are irreplaceable. It is all we have. A balance has to be struck between development and the opportunities it creates and the loss of the incalculable value of wild space.

Other developments are taking place on the river within approximately 400m of the Falls.

It is hoped that all in current leadership and all involved in the tourism industry can urgently engage and have the vision and courage to declare permanent irrevocable boundaries to prevent the fragile wild space in and around this World Heritage site from being taken up by short term development and activity.

Without strictly delineated areas, beyond which, bricks, tents and roads may not proceed the very place we know and love could be irreparably compromised by the current rush of development.
These things, if allowed, can become the thin edge of a wedge that leads to expansion and growth that cannot then be stopped.

Victoria Falls is the heritage of all Zimbabweans . It is in the immediate care of the authorities, stakeholders and the local community. If development is not carefully managed here, the essential natural elements that make this one of the 7 Wonders of the World could be lost.
