What separates us from other guide/adventure companies is in addition to individual backcountry, medical and climbing certifications, our guides/instructors are state certified teachers with BS and MS degrees. MMG took out Luther College today. What a great group of young adults lead by Emily, the Director of Outreach at Decorah. The weather was cool and breezy, and they all did a wonderful job of challenging themselves to a higher level.

Brice, Virgina and Bhumy came out to Devils Lake on Saturday for an Anchors Class. They withstood the heat of the day and progressed nicely though the class. Some brief rain showers rolled through DL, but they were over very quickly.

Midwest Mountain Guides took out Dan and Sam today at DL. This father/daughter team did Chicago proud by "sending" a number of challenging climbs on the East Bluff. Come back and see us soon.

Keach, Andy, Gabe and I took a trip up to Shovel Point on the North Shore, MN in Tettegouche State Park last week. We camped, climbed and even fit in some backpacking on the Superior Hiking Trail. The pictures feature some of the climbs over Lake Superior.

Midwest Mountain Guides took Kevin and Chris out climbing at Devils Lake State Park on Friday. Chris was a first time outdoor climber who found the perfect route and "rocked" it to the top. Kevin had some previous climbing experience, so he climbed up routes like a seasoned vet.

The PCGI (Professional Climbing Guides Institute) was out at DL on Sunday. Many of the participants were going through a refresher to recertify their rock climbing guide credentials. Pictured is one of the participants setting up a climb at Stettners Rocks on the West Bluff.

Keachen, Andy and I spent the day ice climbing at Wyalusing State Park. The temps were warm and we had an early morning rain but otherwise the conditions were good.

Not quite ready for the snow? Here is a picture from our trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park in 2011. You can hang on to warm weather for a little while longer. Now sharpen up those skis and get ready for a great ski and ice climbing season!

On Saturday Nov. 8th and Sunday Nov. 9th the Mt. La Crosse Ski Patrol will be having their annual Ski & Board Swap. As a member of the patrol, I can tell you that this is our main fundraiser to buy our medical supplies for the year. If you are in the area and are looking for some new gear or want to sell some old gear, come on out and check the swap out. Times and locations are on the poster. The Ski Patrol is a non-profit organization.

The fall colors were fantastic at Devils Lake State Park yesterday. It was a cool and wet start to the morning on Saturday but the afternoon turned into a beautiful fall day. The climbing groups we had out were enjoying both (the day and fall colors) as well as some great rock climbing.

Midwest Mountain Guides took Amanda and Matt out climbing today at Devils Lake State Park. They were both first time outdoor climbers and they did a fantastic job.

It was a beautiful fall day and for those of you waiting for the fall color change at Devils Lake, it should be close. Below is a picture taken today of the tree canopy from the East Bluff. It is a great time to be out climbing at DL.

Midwest Mountain Guides took out an energetic group of university students from Loyola University yesterday. Everyone camped the night before and the temps dropped to 32 degrees so it was a cool start to the day. The temps did not stop these students from climbing every route we set. Great job Loyola!

MMG took out Mike Daina and Chris yesterday. We had to dodge some rain but they all did a super job climbing and rappelling.

Yesterday I moved my son Gabe into the dorms at the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he will be studying Electrical Engineering. I know…it’s cold in Duluth, but he likes snowboarding, climbing and other outdoor activities so it is a good fit. Many of you have known Gabe over the years as he was a common denominator on many of our adventures as well as helping out with climbing groups at Devils Lake. I am very proud of him and wish him the best of luck in the future.

MMG took out students from Loyola University-Chicago yesterday. In spite of a wet night camping the students climbed with a lot of enthusiasm and energy during the two day outing. They were a great group to take out climbing and we enjoyed our time with them. Hope to see you again next year.
