Sail Chico Gay Friendly Sailing is a new venture that I’ve set up as a spin-off from Yacht Ibis Caribbean Sailing Adventures which has been running successfully for 4 years now. Yacht Ibis caters to (mainly) single or solo travelling guys and girls looking for an active and exciting holiday with like minded people. Over the years I’ve noticed that we don’t appear to have any gay guests on Ibis, an
d I started wondering about that! I’ve concluded that, when you’re a solo traveller choosing to spend a holiday in close quarters with other singles then, even if you’re not looking for a relationship, you’re going to be looking for something that fits your own persuasion… somewhere where you can be yourself. Hence the idea to run a second boat and promote it as Gay Friendly. I’ve looked at the competition! Seems to me that most of the sailing/cruising holidays advertising to you are pushing the “party hard” theme… I just want to offer you the same opportunity to enjoy an active, healthy adventure holiday with like minded people that you might enjoy on Ibis, just with like minded people. Can you believe I’ve found a boat called Chico Chico?! We’re sailing in the Caribbean, an area where there are at least 10 churches per square mile and the locals are staunchly religious and very conservative. They sing on the buses in the morning! This means that on most islands the locals are not supportive of same s*x relationships or nudity and there is a need to be discreet when travelling around the islands. There are pockets of more liberal thinking, and those islands with a larger expat community and a European feel, such as St Maarten and St Barth’s, tend to be more accepting. On these islands you can be comfortable going out as a gay couple to most bars and restaurants. St Croix in the US Virgin Islands, in contrast, offers solely gay resorts and has chosen to market to you specifically. Chico sails in many of the gay friendlier places, however we have not chosen to put St Croix on our route. The idea is that you get to experience the real Caribbean, however bigoted, and much of your time will be spent on board where you can relax and be yourself. Please Support Us
For obvious reasons, in the first couple of years, our testimonials for Chico and the Ships Log pages of our adventures are going to be a bit light, and I hope you’ll take a look at Yacht Ibis website for comfort that we truly love what we do and deliver on our promises. Please help to spread the word with your friends, and there’s nothing we’d like more than to welcome you on board one day to share in our fabulous sailing adventures for a while.
