Andy Belcher is a multi-award-winning freelance photographer who gained an international reputation for his innovative techniques used to capture underwater, extreme sports and adventure images. While much of Andy’s work in the past has come from International sources he still loves the challenge of photographing local events, businesses, people and products, putting the same driving creativity in

to more commercial applications. Andy has won more than 100 international photographic awards including: Australasian Underwater Photographer of the Year (twice), first place in the British Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and third overall in the Nikon Photo Contest International which received 34,000 entries. With photography now fully into the digital age, much of Andy’s “office work” involves digital enhancement of images and creating art from photography. The creation and sales of both canvas and digital prints have brought a new aspect to his business along with his one-day Digital Photography Workshops which cater for all skill levels and provide an easy balance of practical and theory. Andy is also escorting photo expeditions including swimming with humpback whales in Tonga. His combination of enthusiasm, a lively power point presentation, travel anecdotes and plenty of photographic advice has placed him in demand as a guest speaker for local, national and international groups with engagements taking him as far afield as Sicily and France. Andy is happy to talk about some of his lucky escapes while on photo shoots. These include nearly being drowned by a crazy dugong, almost lost at sea in the Solomon Islands and a very close shave with a tsunami wave in Samoa in Sept 2009. Andy’s business is located at his home in Maketu where he spends many evenings perched at the edge of his cliff-top garden photographing the place he loves most. It is a long way from his previous life in a metal pressing business in Birmingham, England!

SKY DIVE FRANS JOSEF!!!!! When you watch this please excuse my language!!! In march last year I travelled the South Island on my motorcycle with camera gear and my model Larissa. We were producing a two part story for D-Photo Magazine. We met a lovely guy called Matt. Up to 1981 I had done 420 skydives and after that pretty much decided I didn't want to jump again. Larissa and Matt wanted to sky-dive over the Frans Josef Glacier and this created some peer pressure for me! Did I want to miss out and listen to them raving about it for days to come??? I did not! So, here it is, 31 years later, a video of my 421st sky dive. Its taken me 18 months to finally get it edited to put online. I have to admit to being absolutely sh*t scared. You can see it in my face as I shuffle into the open door at 12,500 feet. You may also notice that the instructor had to prize my fingers off the door edge before we could leap out! Please dont laugh at my weird facial expressions in free fall. But once I got to terra firma I have to admit to being very proud of myself despite a little nausea. I wasn't sure if I could do it again at my tender age but I did. A fantastic experience on a picture perfect west coast day. If you look carefully you can see Mount Cook and the glacier as we turn in free fall. Yahoo.
