The Galapagos Trip last spring was a collection of new wonders, exercise in the fresh air and ocean and plenty of photo opportunities in the colorful plazas and markets. I especially enjoyed the outdoor museum with the tortoises and iguanas. So much research is being conducted that helps the long term survival of the Island’s unique fauna. Our meals were delicious and different in each place we visited. We even tried the fried guinea pig, it was better than chicken!

I won the EF Outstanding Teacher Award for 2018!!

EF reached out to past travelers, as well as students across the U.S., asking them to nominate why they think their teacher is a superhero.

2000 teachers were nominated from across the USA. 5 were selected. I was one!!

Now they are flying me and a +1 all expenses paid to NYC during Teacher Appreciation Week on May 11-13 to see the Empire State Building being lit up in our honor. They will also donate $1000 to my school.

I'm taking my mom as my +1 since it's mother's day weekend and she's the one who always inspired me to reach for my dreams and get a good education.

This Galapagos Island Trip was amazing! Even more impressive were the travelers! No matter how early we had to get up or how long the day was, they embraced the day's activities with a sense of adventure.

I knew before we left how awesome these kiddos are, but I was so impressed by the flexibility and maturity of students who are only between 12-14 yrs. old. The adult travelers had me laughing my insides out with their senses of humor! I can hardly imagine a more amazing group than these 24 people.

I really want to thank my chaperones, Ruth and Catie who did an outstanding job supporting me and the students at every step. Last, but by no means least, I thank all of the parents who trusted me with their child as we experienced the trip of a lifetime.

My only question is....where to next???

UPDATE: Earlier flight on time. Later flight delayed in Quito 40 min. We now depart at 1:30 am Monday instead of 12:55 Monday. We should still be able to connect in Dallas on time for our flight to DCA.

Back in Quito safe and sound. Tomorrow we venture off to Otavalo, a wonderful indigenous town known for beautiful textiles and lots of fun negotiating! Then, we head to Cotacachi, a town known for its leathercraft. Later, we find our way to the airport to say adios to Quito and hello to Maryland. We will see you on Monday with happy hearts, luggage stocked with souveniers and minds full of wonderful memories.
