Our 2024 all-women expedition team reached Ishinca Basecamp yesterday - a slice of mountaineering heaven in the middle of the Cordillera Blanca.
Perched at 14,400ft above sea level in a stunning setting, the Ishinca Valley makes for an incredible location to acclimatize, practice skills, and get ready for summit attempts on the surrounding 18,000ft+ snowcapped peaks.

Join us on Komo Kulshan (Mount Baker) this summer to learn how to self arrest as competently as Ava in this clip from last year’s Mt Baker glacier course. Of course we’re not stopping there - we’ll practice efficient use of crampons, knots and rope systems and glacier travel, and top it all off with a bid for Komo Kulshan’s summit. We still have limited spots available on the following courses:
🔹June 6-12: Comprehensive Mountaineering School (“Glacier II”) - with five full days on the mountain for even more time to learn and practice skills
🔹 August 1-5: Glacier School 1 exclusively for youth climbers ages 14-21

All of our Komo Kulshan courses start and finish in Seattle and include lodging, trailhead transfers, and team meals in town; if you’re traveling in from out of town this means that you don’t need to worry about renting a car or spending money on Seattle accommodations.

What experience do you need to join us on Komo Kulshan? Prior backpacking experience is strongly recommended; you need to be in good cardio shape and able to carry a pack with all of your gear - typically around 40 lbs - to Basecamp. Mountaineering experience is welcome but not needed; that’s what we are here to teach!

We out here! 💪🏽 Our all-women’s team on Aconcagua has officially arrived at Camp 2.
An update from Expedition Leader @dani.rudinsky, “We successfully made it to Camp 2! Despite having to brave steady winds of 40mph and gusts of 60mph, we persevered and arrived safely.”
Now, fingers, toes, and everything in between are crossed for a weather window that will allow our team safe passage for a summit attempt.
For our teams, we chase more than just the summit.
We are here for the mental challenge, the fresh cold air, the unforgiving sunshine, the new-found friendships, and the inward soul-searching that goes hand-in-hand with climbing mountains.
Because without the rest, it’s just another mountain to be conquered instead of revered and respected.

It's here. Team Aconcagua is arriving in Mendoza and heading straight into their team welcome dinner. In just a few short days, AWE guide Dani (@dani.rudinsky) and local guide Luchi (@luchi.marun) will lead our team up to the 22,838-foot summit of the tallest peak in South America.
