The photo he is holding is taken in front of the company that built his famous bike. TRIPAD is the name of the company, but they closed down after the founder Johann Trienens died in 1973.
TRIPAD printed a special issue about Heinz’s tour from Paderborn, where TRIPAD was produced, to Tokio, where Heinz wanted to join the Olympic Games in 1964. He knew that he wouldn’t make it in time for the Games and instead he cycled through Africa and on to South America with a cargo ship. Many years later, in the seventies, he reached Japan and spent two years there.
I took the photo one month ago and as you can see…he is doing well and smiling 😊
