We celebrated the holidays in a local village in the Sacred Valley, participating in a tree planting ceremony. This community lives high in the mountains where there is a lack of vegetation. Planting trees helps to stabilize the soil. With the help of , we raised money to buy trees to plant and toys for the kids.

Thank you to for capturing these stunning photos.

“Cuy” has been served whole since Inca times, enjoyed during festivities and special occasions. They are a sign of abundance and good fortune.

A peak inside a traditional market in Peru!

In many South American countries, open-air markets are the norm. You will find both locals and travelers stocking up on fresh produce, flowers, handmade wool knitwear, and even raw meat at these markets.

Visiting these markets as a tourist is a great way to interact with the locals, support the community, and purchase some really unique souvenirs.

A few tips!
💵 Bring cash
🗣️ Be familiar with some Spanish phrases, such as “cuánto cuesta” which means “how much does it cost”
🚶‍♂️ Take a quick lap around the market before you purchase anything, just to get a good understanding of what the market has to offer and compare prices

Traveling within Peru may be easier and less intimidating than you think! For as little as 25 cents you can hop on a local bus and drive to another town.

The buses the locals ride on are the best and most efficient way to get around if you’re on a budget and want the real local experience. In Peru, shared buses are called “colectivos.” You’ll have a local driver who is used to the windy roads that will get you to where you need to go.. and fast!

Happy and safe travels!! 🚌
