NEW ALERTS FROM EMBASSY
THE AMERICAN EMBASSY IN COLOMBIA HAS JUST ISSUED AN ALERT FOR CASES OF ROBBERIES AND MURDERS IN MEDELLÍN, BOGOTÁ AND CARTAGENA.
THE DEATHS APPEAR TO INVOLVE INVOLUNTARY DRUG ABUSE OR ARE SUSPECTED HOMICIDES. AT THIS TIME, THESE DEATHS ARE NOT BELIEVED TO BE RELATED AS EACH INVOLVES DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES; HOWEVER, SEVERAL OF THE DEATHS POINT TO POSSIBLE DRUGS, THEFT AND OVERDOSES, AND SEVERAL INVOLVE THE USE OF ONLINE DATING APPLICATIONS,” SAYS THE ALERT, DATED JANUARY 10.
“NUMEROUS AMERICAN CITIZENS IN COLOMBIA HAVE BEEN DRUGGED, ROBBED AND EVEN MURDERED BY THEIR COLOMBIAN PARTNERS,” THESE TYPES OF CRIMES ARE USUALLY NOT REPORTED BECAUSE THE VICTIMS FEEL ASHAMED AND DO NOT WANT TO CONTINUE WITH THE JUDICIAL PROCESS,” SAYS THAT OFFICE.
IF YOU MEET A STRANGER, SOMEONE FROM A CHAIN OF WRONG SERVICE LIKE UBERS, STREET CARDS, OLD CONTACTS, WRONG WAITERS, BELLBOYS, DATING APPS, YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER MEETING ONLY IN PUBLIC PLACES AND AVOIDING ISOLATED PLACES, SUCH AS RESIDENCES OR HOTEL ROOMS, WHERE CRIMES ARE MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR.
TELL A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER YOUR PLANS, INCLUDING WHERE YOU'RE GOING, DETAILS OF THE PERSON YOU'RE MEETING, AND THE APP YOU USED TO MEET THEM. VICTIMS WHO ARE ATTACKED THROUGH ONLINE DATING APPS OFTEN HAVE THEIR ELECTRONIC DEVICES STOLEN, WHICH OFTEN CONTAIN ALL EVIDENCE OF COMMUNICATION WITH THEIR ATTACKERS.
