The principal consultant with Treevolution Arboricultural Consultants Pty Ltd (Colin Thornton) has been involved within the arboricultural industry for past 27 years, during which time has been exposed to a wide range of experiences in dealing with trees and the legislation, be that regulated trees or trees in relation to development. Colin Thornton has 12 years experience working for Local Govern
ment planning departments and dealing with tree related issues from regulated/significant tree removal applications to comprehensive development applications involving the retention and removal of trees. During his time as a Local Government officer he has been involved in the development and implementation of numerous tree strategies and policies, and the provision of expert witness statements. He has also been involved with the private sector as a senior consultant dealing with a wide range of tree related development issues including tree inventories and surveys, provision of specialist reports, through to carrying out tree hazard assessments using visual tree assessment methods and a wide range of specialist decay detection equipment. A major role of the consultant is dealing with customer enquiries, and communicating with a wide range of personnel from residential property owners to large-scale developers and Local Government Officers. Colin Thornton has also had the opportunity to work within the European sector of the arboricultural industry, which has complemented and expanded his knowledge base of the intricacies involved with retaining trees during the development process. Part of the principal consultant’s role is the provision of arboricultural training to students within the arboricultural industry. The work experience gained has involved both operational and technical roles, which include: Arboricultural Consultant, Arboricultural Lecturer/Trainer, Arboricultural Projects Officer (Local Government), Arboricultural Officer (Local Government), Tree Officer (Planning), and climbing Arborist.
