Hard to believe it'll be 13 years since I began filming for my debut feature documentary The Rebound.

I sat down for my first interview having blocked thirty minutes for a deep conversation with Ricardo Lucien. He just had received a college scholarship to play wheelchair basketball based on how hard he had pushed to improve over the last year. His story fascinated me. Ricardo had an endless amount of positivity; this meant even more given that he had survived a gunshot wound that caused him to be paralyzed. I wanted to know everything - about his story, the sport...anyone who knows me now would laugh in my face if I told them I was aiming for a thirty minute interview 🤣Two hours later, my let my generous interviewee off the hook. My curiosity was flourishing and flowing.

Have you seen The Rebound? DM me and I will send you a free rental code to watch it :)

Video Description: White text on the screen reads "pov: fresh out of collect you make your first documentary". Behind the text, various shots of Shaina holding a camera and filming a wheelchair basketball team play.

This video is from late last year, but one that my mentor recently said is not only his favorite but it also reminds him of the unique joy I bring.

So, I wanted to share it again in hopes that it brings you the same joy that it brings my mentor.

How do you prioritize joy?

Shaina is seen opening her mailbox and showing the mail she recently received to the camera while then walking back to her home, showing herself walk through the grass. The video ends with her speaking directly to the camera.

Life is too short not to find joy in the little things—even if it means hopping on a bike that doesn’t go anywhere. Embracing the fun, laughing freely, and choosing happiness right where you are. Here’s to finding moments that make your heart smile, no matter where life takes you.

Be well. You have the tools. Choose to use them. Leave behind the behaviors that you know help sink you lower and replace them. It doesn’t feel good in the moment, but over your lifetime you will feel better. Will-power.

Accept where you are. You need 8 hours of sleep no matter what has been done—accept this, don’t judge yourself. Your pace is yours, your story is unique, YOU WILL FIND YOUR WAY; stop comparing, just be inspired. You reserve the right to change your mind. Need nothing but the fire inside you, love everyone but don't need them. You are strong. You are worthy. You are flawed, and that is okay. You are not a bad person.

Words from my journal.

I've slowly made my space in Miami as sweet as my tiny house in Virginia. All of the details add joy life into my home. My goal for my spaces, even if it isn't a full-renovation and I have to work with what I have...is to always, leave it better than I found it and utilize it efficiently. I design and decorate to add my grounding in my little oasis. Are you highly impacted by well-designed spaces?
