10,000 years of craftsmanship, culture, and connection—Japanese ceramics trace back to the Jōmon period, with some of the earliest pottery in the world featuring intricate rope-like designs. By the 16th century, the art form took on new significance during the Momoyama period, thanks to the tea ceremony, which elevated handcrafted tea bowls into symbols of aesthetic and spiritual beauty. 🍵✨
On our Japan trip, we’re lucky enough to experience this rich tradition up close. First, we’ll visit ‘s studio in Karatsu for a deep dive into pottery history.
