Pierogies (pasta stuffed with cabbage or meat) Zapiekanki (toasted bread with your choice of fillings - this one was basically cheese with garlic sauce. And Bigos the National Dish (Hunter's Stew made with meat and cabbage). Great place to visit and not too expensive.

The open-faced Rueben sandwich (corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, 1,000 Island dressing on rye bread - grilled to perfection at Carnegie Deli in New York City. The sandwich was about $25 I was full after eating half and I gave the other half to a homeless man in Times Square.

You must try a herring sandwich if you go to the Netherlands. There are street stalls all over Amsterdam. The Dutch eat them whole, the best time is early spring when they have the "new herring". The Dutch are wonderful people!
