Let it... ❄️ Did you know there are more than 40 different words for ‘snow’ – or rather various types of frozen precipitation – in the Finnish language? 🇫🇮
‘Lumi’ is probably the snow we most look forward to seeing at Christmas time. It’s the soft, bright white stuff that blankets much of Finland during the festive season. 🌨️
But we’re also fans of ‘viti’ (freshly fallen powder), ‘hotto’ (very fluffy snow) and ‘jaakristalli’ (ice crystals). 🤍
Whereas we’re not so fond of ‘hyhma’ (slush), ‘tuisku’ (snow in a strong wind), ‘loska’ (very wet, muddy snow), ‘kohva’ (grey ice), ‘kaljama’ (slippery sheet ice), ‘nietos’ (a big snowdrift) and ‘laviini’ (a small avalanche). 🧊
AND there are other nuanced words for the type of snow depending on weather conditions, where it settles, if it’s been treaded on by a human, animal or vehicle... and much more! 🎿🦌
So this Christmas... let it lumi, let it viti, let it hotto! ❄️
❄️ Are you ready to snowmobile to the centre of the Nordics this winter? ❄️

Lapland Husky Sledding
Although it's been a quieter winter than usual, the huskies have still been keeping active and running in the snow. Here is a "quick 6km" from this Wednesday afternoon!
It's a record!
It's a record! Our fastest UK to Enontekio flight has just landed. Flight ENT3167 arrived from Birmingham in 2 hours and 28 minutes, helped by some strong tailwinds from Storm Dennis - 1 hour and 20 minutes quicker than expected. We welcome our guests to a snowy Lapland!
The Northern Lights filmed from the Davvi Arctic Star in Karesuando this week. We look forward to welcoming all Aurora hunters to Lapland in the coming weeks!
