Day 4 of CULTURE - HISTORY - NATURE trip to Portland Jamaica.

NATURE EXCURSION
🍃 🌊 🌿

All the participants opted in on the optional hike in the tropical rainforest along the river to reach - REACH FALLS.

Reach falls is located in the John Crow Mountains which is marked by the UNESCO as a world Heritage site.

⛰️ This mountain holds great importance because it "offered the Maroons everything they needed for their survival. They developed strong spiritual connections with the mountains, still manifest through the intangible cultural legacy of, for example, religious rites, traditional medicine and dances. The site is also a biodiversity hotspot for the Caribbean Islands with a high proportion of endemic plant species, especially lichens, mosses and certain flowering plants. " [unesco.org] ⛰️

In the evening we stopped at this amazing beach and took in the beauty that is all around the island of Jamaica. 🙏🙌

During the nature excursion Larry picked some ackee for us so we could try Jamaicas national dish for breakfast! 😋🍲

Day 1 of CULTURE - HISTORY - NATURE trip to Portland Jamaica.

Today was an introduction to Jamaican life, focus: food & language. We got to try real homemade jerk seasoning at Portland Jerk Centre.

Walking a little bit further and climbing some steep stone steps and rocks, we eventually got to this incredible hidden beach. And it was definitely worth the extra effort! Wow truly a paradise 🇯🇲 ☀ 🏖 🌴

We finished the day with dinner and Patois class with our local guide Larry.

Wah gwaan ova Yah suh?

What a great day! And just to add that extra magic, we saw the rainbow! 🌈
