Through the YFS Elections Awareness Campaign, we realized the various inconveniences a candidate must overcome to run in the race. Besides the point that elections are held at one of the most inconvenient times of the year for students (prime winter and academic deadlines); the candidate must also take the responsibility of promoting the idea that an election is actually occurring on campus.

We need accountability from our student union!

In the past, York is U has organized large campus-wide events, such as Terry Fox Run, Red & White Day, York’s Birthday and Multicultural Week, for York University. The purpose of these events is not only to celebrate the various diverse and amazing accolades of York, but also to engage students, through either attending events, volunteering for York is U or even to help organize a specific event in the York community. Through this, many students have had the opportunity to become involved with various aspects of York University that they had previously thought not possible and have come to view York as not only an excellent educational institution, but also as a home away from home.

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who came out and helped run our stations during Red & White Day! We're so greatful to have such an amazing community of volunteers; you are the backbone of our organization!

We have been receiving many questions from volunteers on how to log co-curricular hours/what is YUCONNECT. Our Chair & Membership Director, Sheila, is working on a blog post which will go over the steps involved in submitting hours and highlight a few useful aspects of YUCONNECT. Make sure to log your co-curricular hours in a timely manner, as we will be appreciating our most active volunteers thus far at our upcoming Meet & Greet in October!

York is U is recruiting volunteers for our signature event, Red and White Day! Red and White Day is the time to wear your red and white to express your student pride for YorkU! This year Red & White Day will be held on Thursday October 1st 2015.

York is U will be holding three stations in Vari Hall for Red & White Day from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM. Our stations include button-making, the pride thermometer and the dress up photo booth. Sign in will occur all day and the hours you want to volunteer are completely up to you! Set up will begin at 9:15 AM in Vari Hall and shut down off the stations will occur from 3:00-3:30 PM.

There will be a free pizza lunch for York is U volunteers and all volunteer hours contributed to Red & White Day can be used for service hours on your co-curricular record, available on YUCONNECT. If you already have a York is U T-Shirt, please bring it to the event.

Want to gain leadership skills and unleash your potential for impact this Summer? This is a great opportunity to get involved with York is U with one of our first events of the year!

We're looking for volunteers for our Summer kickoff event, Beat the Heat 2015! Beat the Heat will be on Thursday July 16th 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Commons (the green field infront of Vari Hall).

Attractions include:
- A fun soccer tournament with prizes
- Frisbee tournament
- Jumbo freezies pop/water/snacks for sale (0.50 each)
- Outdoor lawn games (ex: large scrabble)
- A performance by the Salsa Club @ York
- A beginner workshop by the Salsa Club @ York
