Passionate About Italy Art, people, architecture, places, food, history, literature, landscapes, music... Join a PAI Cultural Tour. One night stands are avoided whenever possible.

Share our passion and broaden your appreciation of Mediterranean life and culture by joining a PAI tour. Walk the countryside, explore the cities, and visit the sites. The philosophy behind PAI tours is to offer informative, “hands on” programs within the context of a three to four week itinerary. Extended stays in rural retreats are generally balanced by two or three night stopovers in urban cent

res. PAI programs are designed to focus on the historical and cultural significance of specific regions, sites and individuals, whilst also providing insights into the broader heritage of a country and its people. Preliminary reading material and introductory talks are provided and frequent opportunities are available to record, reflect and discuss your shared experiences. Wining and dining on regional fare is mandatory. Since 2004, almost a dozen groups of between six and twelve enthusiastic travellers have participated in PAI tours to various regions of Italy as well as to Spain, Greece and Turkey. PAI Travel Diary No. 11

It’s hard to believe that twenty years have passed since a small group of eager Melbourne based “mature aged students” gathered in Arezzo to join the inaugural Passionate About Italy cultural tour.

The PAI tour project was launched in 2004 following several successful Italian ventures involving Secondary level students. The question had arisen “Why should the children have all the fun?” So attention was diverted towards developing a parallel “adults only” program.

During May and June, two groups of enthusiasts explored cities, cultural sites and landscapes in Tuscany, Umbria and The Marches from a base in the picturesque Tuscan hamlet of Arsicci. Destinations included Assisi, Urbino, La Verna, Arezzo, Florence, Sansepolcro, Lake Trasimeno, Cortona et al.

Along the way there was much to be learnt, appreciated and enjoyed. Local produce was savoured, vino imbibed and friendships forged.

All in all, the inaugural PAI project was a great success and would be the first of many similar Mediterranean adventures. Here we have a selection of snapshots from the 2004 program…

PAI Travel Diary No. 10

Two decades ago, in April of 2004, a group of 20 enthusiastic, creative students participated in the fourth Wesley College Cultural Tour to Italy. The tour was a great success, providing students with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural legacy of over two millennia of Italian history and to record their personal impressions of this endlessly fascinating part of the world.
