That Fairytale Dress I Saw the Other Day.

And yes it was beautiful beyond words with its rainbow pastel colours, scattered lace flowers and there could’ve been a few sparkly bits as well. Let’s just leave it at I was besotted with it but it was way way beyond my price limit.

Parker the Pigeon.

Unlike a lot of people I rather like pigeons. Each one has a unique personality if you linger longer to observe them. Parker, who lives in my local park, is a particular favourite of mine. 😘

This beautiful house in Paddington, Brisbane has always caught my eye whenever I've walked past. I love how it's garden framed entry beckons you in. It was long overdue to be sketched and today was the day. It felt good to reconnect with my paints and brushes again. 😊

Very honoured that my artwork 'Plie in Pink' is currently being featured as part of the Australian contingent in this year's International Watercolour Symposium and Exhibition in Bologna, Italy. Congratulations to all the other international participants too! Wish I could magically zap myself there. 😊

It also featured locally as part of the
2021 exhibition in Cairns late last year.

Moored.

Watercolour and ink, 20.3 x 20.3 x 3.5cm

Just a little excited! Have dropped this small canvas artwork off to Aspire Gallery in Paddington, Brisbane, Qld. It was successful as a gallery finalist for their 'Petite Pieces' exhibition showing from 2-30 April.

This was my first time actually using watercolour and ink on canvas. I developed a sketch I did recently of a sailing boat moored on the Brisbane River by changing its colour scheme and adding more ink details. Ironically each year I've lived in Brisbane I've seen this exhibition advertised and thought I must enter something. I'm so glad that this year I finally did!

The gallery's online catalogue will be out next week and if you happen to be Brisbane based do pop in and check out an array of amazing petite artworks exhibited in this character-filled weatherboard church gallery. www.aspiregallery.com.au

Jacqueline the Jacaranda Bird.
💜
Very rare tiny bird only sighted during jacaranda tree flowering season. Well camouflaged by its dappled lilac coloured feathers making it extremely hard to spot amongst the flowers. Noted for its high pitched excited tweet which interestingly can only be heard by jacaranda tree lovers. (All said in my very best David Attenborough impersonation voice). 😉😂😏

Seriously though I do love jacaranda trees and my neighbourhood is awash in lilac purple so why not create an imaginary bird to match the beauty of this colour.

The Girl in the Hot Pink Sun Hat.

Yes I did a hat! Anything to get me back painting again. So choose to paint what you love I thought and do it in your favourite colour and she magically appeared. 💖 There may be more hats if that’s what it takes to find my mojo again. 🤔

Ulysses the Butterfly.

I’m sure you wouldn’t be surprised to know that butterflies are one of my favourite bugs in the world. I was excited to spot so many of these giant vivid blue ones flitting around tropical northern Queensland recently. I also liked that this particular species were actually called Ulysses Butterflies. May this splash of blue brighten your day! 🦋💙🦋

Leo the Lionfish.

I got up close with this amazingly gorgeous fish whilst on holidays in tropical North Queensland recently. We did have a bit of a staring competition which I’m sure he won. 😁 But truly I could’ve stayed watching him for hours. Be prepared for more tropical fish encounters of the painting kind. 🐠🐡🐟

Nudgee Beach Mangroves.

Today I meandered with and on timber boardwalks amongst the amazing mangroves edging Nudgee Beach on Moreton Bay, Brisbane. As sketchers are want to do we found a shady spot and captured the beauty of this wonderful spot happily exchanging arty ideas whilst listening to birdsong. A perfect morning!

Ambrosia Coffee.

What a dilemma when your coffee cup is such a stunning ceramic artwork of ripples inside and out that it’s irresistible for sketching and yet the coffee is so delicious too. 🤔 So I drank half and started sketching of course. Thanks Nadia for your compliments and lovely service at .co in Bulimba.

Poppy Arabesque.

I adore poppies. That fusion of red, orange, yellow and pink makes my heart beat faster every single time. They are such happy flowers and there are a lot of places in Australia at the moment that could do with a colour splash of happiness to brighten their lockdown. I found this little bunch at my local West End to be my flower model. ❤️🧡💛💖

The Girl with the Amazing Earring.

Well last week was a little out of comfort zone with a sketching meetup goal with arty friends to do a face in mixed media style with the prompt being from her original deck of card sets. It started out pure watercolour but as I got more adventurous a little collage crept in, plus some mark making with the finale being a wonderful suggestion to use some metallic gold gouache for the splatter. Such a magical effect for sure and definitely my next art purchase. 😍

The Teeny Weeny Polka Dot Purse.

I saw this gorgeous little retro purse at and in hindsight I should’ve bought it. I may even go back to get it! 🤨 So many memories attached to such small funky fashion accessories. Always fun browsing for sketching ideas and taking a trip down memory lane on sketching outings. And even more fun sketching the finds! 😍

Plié in Pink.

Nothing like a splash of pink in an aging terracotta pot to capture my artist’s eye whilst sipping coffee at in my neighbourhood. So much fun trying to emulate the myriad of colours but it did need a little zap of extra colour and texture with some pink collage petals being the final touch. Fab coffee plus the most amazing wall mural too.

Forever on the Swings.

As a child I loved nothing better than going to the park with a friend and just swinging. As an adult I possibly still like going to the park and just swinging.
Trying to focus on simplicity and just let the watercolours do the storytelling.

On the Verandah.

The Regatta Hotel in Brisbane sits proudly in all her Victorian grandeur on the side of the river opposite where I live. I love having her in my view. She dates back to 1874 and has withstood the test of time plus a few floods along the way. She is three storeys high with beautiful white wrought iron and fretwork decoration on all her verandahs. Check her out Ironically these decorative railings were so hard to capture closeup as I sat sipping a prosecco, sketching and admiring its details. So here is a little vignette albeit a loose interpretation of her verandah beauty and ambience.
