White-winged Crossbills in Long Lake (central Adirondacks). I first noted them irrupting into the area on Oct. 28, 2024. They are widespread along Route 30 and Sabattis Road in Long Lake this winter. I have observed them feeding on Tamarack, and Red & Black Spruce cone seeds - often alongside Red Crossbills. Both species have been gritting together also! Paired birds have been bill-touching. Winters with crossbills are always wonderful!

Red Crossbills in Long Lake (central Adirondacks). They nested during late summer (2024) and are widespread this winter in the central Adirondacks. Many were heard singing today and I recently observed mate-feeding. They are feeding on Red Spruce cone seeds (a bumper crop this year).

Solo Bohemian Waxwing feeding in a Japanese Apple tree in Long Lake, NY. The homeowners said it has been in their yard for a week. Unusual to see only one!
