Thanks to you shoe-buyers, we purchased seven pairs of shoes from the women at Mana! We sorted and double-checked colors and size conversion, so we should have something appropriate for your feet to deliver to you after arrival home Aug. 8.

Last call for shoe orders! $50 each pair. You’re supporting moms learning a trade and earning income, and you’ll also provide a pair of shoes for a child here in Trujillo.

*Clarification: We are also seeking to help them raise $750 to purchase the machine that will help them increase production volume to fulfill orders from a local shoe seller. That would be a big step for them and you could be part of the reason they ramp up production! Lots of size 6, 7, 8, 9. Other sizes available are 40 (9.5) and 41 (10) in EU/Peru sizes.

We are heading to Mana today to say goodbye to Pastor Eli and the kids and see if there are any more shoes available to bring home. Reply in comments if you’d like us to ask for your size. Women’s flats, Brown, Black, and tan/carmel color. Sizes vary based on inventory.

Hey team, We’d like to start a campaign to sell 14 pairs of shoes for the women at Amijai. If we sell 14 pairs at $50 a pair, it will earn them enough to buy the machine they need to attach the souls of the shoes themselves (they currently borrow a machine for this, which slows down production). The shoes are nice leather flats and come in sizes 6-10. Additionally, for every pair bought, a pair goes to a child in the community here. Spread the word! Chris and I will bring home shoes and deliver them in August. We will pay upfront and you can reimburse us then! Ok, spread the word! How fast can we sell 14 pairs??? See pictures in comments.

What a beautiful way to finish up our stay in Peru with Inca Link! The team hiked the mountain next to the compound to take in the view, get a workout, get perspective on why we’re here to serve, and learn a little sand boarding, Inca Thakhi-style! Thanks to our friend Joca for his faithful shepherding of the boys in El Porvenir neighborhood.

Parents, look forward to some follow-up emails/conversations in the weeks and months to come, as well as a video from our time here. Thanks for entrusting your students and family members to us for the past couple of weeks.

Here’s to the team’s homecoming tomorrow!

Hi mom!
Haha, today was a rest day for the team in many exciting and peaceful ways. We got to attend church together which personally was pretty cool. Seeing how around the world we all sing similar songs, preach the same message and spread the same love. The culture here is super relationship oriented; walking into a room includes kissing everybody’s cheeks and massive amounts of hugs. The greetings are so warm, it feels as if every one is one big family.
We also had the opportunity to travel around Huanchaco. Huanchaco is a beach exploding with markets, surfers, tourists and food. We tried many types of foods that were beyond compare delicious. After that we ate more food at Chicken King and walked around the city square. In the whole, today consisted of laughter, peace/relaxation and food.
I could go on and on and on and on about the food.
Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Huanchaco!

Today was a rest day for the team. Was good to get some time at the beach at Huanchaco, just outside of Trujillo. We enjoyed a day in the sun, a group dinner at Chicken King, and an hour at the Plaza de Armas downtown. We are recharged and ready for a new week serving! Here’s a tidbit from Bethany Lanier in the Plaza de Armas tonight.

This trip has been nothing short of amazing so far. Yesterday we helped paint a building for one of the ministries. The walls were bright teal when we first got there and that was after two full coats of thick white paint! Although we felt frustrated by the lack of progress, the experience taught us about what it means to be content with what you have. After lunch (which was once again, delicious), we drove to a playground to meet some more kiddos, but on the way there our van got T-boned! Thankfully, no one was hurt, and the driver told us it was his first accident in 8 years! Personally I was almost expecting it because the traffic here is crazy! I was on the side as the van got hit and watched it hit us without flinching, I think God was in the van with us and helped us to stay calm. The man who hit us was cooperative and we were back on our way within the hour. At the playground, the kids greeted us with hugs and many smiles as soon as we got off the van. Our group spent the afternoon running around with children hanging onto our backs and going back and forth on the see-saw. It was amazing to see the effect that Jesus has on their lives, and what faith really means here. After a solid night's rest, we spent the morning playing soccer with the Inca Thakhi boys, (another ministry in the city), and we learned their nicknames, plus came up with our own. Ellie scored a goal! Right after lunch, we were at Mana with the fourth graders. We did a skit to teach them about humility and sang a song about a frog. Then we went inside to work on coloring pages. All of the children were very warm and forgiving of my Español malo:) The two girls I sat next to talked to me about what they were studying in school and they mentioned that they were learning a little English; so not only did I get an opportunity to practice my Spanish, but they got to practice their colors! "Esta es 'red,' no?"
"Sí muy bien."
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to come here, and I often find myself asking "is this real?" I hope that in the week to come, we are able to make many new friends and help teach more people about the love of Jesus, and not to mention learn how his love gives this community hope.

Students went together as a group to use their Spanish and buy ingredients to make a chicken soup. They came back with chicken onions garlic quinoa tomatoes etc. We all worked together to make a tasty soup at the place we are staying

A sweet moment playing with kids in the “Sector 7” community in Trujillo this afternoon. These kids and their families were affected severely by the floods and mudslides in early 2017 and went mostly unnoticed until Inca Link followed up with a family that participated in the Elim ministry near the garbage dump and brought emergency relief. That initial relationship with one local family led to the organization expanding its weekly kids program to this neighborhood. Playtime, a short lesson, a little treat, and more playtime. Good life is happening here.

Wow what a day! This morning we got to wake up and participate in a devotional lead by one of our two awesome interns. After eating breakfast, we got to work on digging a long, deep trench for a pipe and cleaning out a couple water systems for their new emergency water system. This system is for if a natural disaster happens, they can be a helpful hand to their community by providing water. After finishing the trench with a few breaks to watch the Peru world cup game (Peru won!), we ate a delicious lunch. We had a few hours until our next task, so we all took advantage of the extra time and took naps. After we woke up, we went to go help with a group that meets every week. It is a group of kids and moms, and the moms work on crafts they can sell together, while the kids get to have a lesson about God, sing, color, and loads of other fun stuff. The kids loved getting to meet us, and we loved getting to meet them. We just came back from that and ate a delicious chicken noodle soup for dinner. Everyone is loving the trip so far, and we can't wait to see what day three brings us tomorrow. Tonight we are going to play games and eat ice cream, so I can't wait. Please keep praying for us as we continue on this life changing journey!

Good morning! We arrived in Lima last night and got about 4 and a half hours of sleep before heading off on one more short flight today. Spanish team is off to Cusco and Soma is headed for Trujillo. Talk to you soon!
