India Outreach Programs, Aug 20th 2024 @ Shivashree Trust, Mysore.
Organized by Celestial Minds in association with Sports Outreach Institute.

Shivashree Trust provides exceptional support to meritorious girls coming from challenging backgrounds by way of providing free boarding and lodging while they pursue higher education including professional degrees. Our "Express through chess" programs have empowered chess enthusiasts worldwide and we are thrilled to initiate this program and support female students at the Shivashree Trust.

Last October 2023, Celestial Minds and Sports Outreach Institute conducted camps in Government schools, India. I
am happy to share that we continued the camps with the support of the local players for the high school kids.

Many thanks to Mysore chess players who have joined hands to help us run these programs around the Mysore region.

Post return from Africa, I had the proudest moment as a coach, our Elementary Team won first place for the third consecutive time with a team score of 4/4.

A Tale of Sportsmanship: Nepomniachtchi's Apology to Caruana 💔

In the high-stakes battleground of the , where only the first matters, the critical showdown between Fabiano Caruana and Ian Nepomniachtchi gripped spectators with its twists and turns. Caruana appeared to have the upper hand as early as move 25, but the relentless march of time and the pressure of the moment clouded his path to victory, and therefore his chances of becoming the next Challenger.

As the game progressed, both players grappled with the complexities of the board. Caruana's frustration was palpable as countless missed opportunities slipped through his fingers, confessing afterwards that he feels like an idiot. The game stretched on until finally, on move 109, Caruana exhausted his last chance.

In the aftermath of their battle, Nepomniachtchi's display of sportsmanship stood out as a beacon of humanity amidst the competitive fervor. With humility and blatant disappointment, he apologized to Caruana, acknowledging the challenging circumstances that had unfolded on the board.

"I don't know what to say," Nepomniachtchi admitted, "Some bad luck for Fabiano.". A genuine moment of connection and understanding between two fierce competitors!

This gesture of respect serves as a reminder that, beyond the confines of victory and defeat, there exists a realm of mutual admiration and empathy.

Chess Mission Trip - Africa

Dear Friends,

Happy to share that we are about to board the flight to Kenya on the first leg of our 10-day tour to Africa as part of Sports Outreach Institute's (SOI) mission trip. On this trip, we look forward to chess outreach activities (chess FIDE rated tournament, training camps, simul chess sessions, etc.) in Uganda and Kenya.

This mission is close to my heart since for the first time, I will be seeing some people in Uganda whom I have supported and interacted with for over a decade. I am also excited to meet Uganda's chess ambassador (whose work was featured in the movie "Queen of Katwe" fame). I am thrilled to have chess enthusiasts and chess masters - Jason and Scott on this trip with whom I am serving on the chess advisory board, SOI.

Looking forward to sharing my experiences. Thanks to all of you for your support and cheers!
