MORISOT X MUNCH: PORTRAIT PAINTING & COLOUR MIXING MASTERCLASS WITH NIKKI GARDHAM – SATURDAY 1 MARCH 2025

Do you find colour difficult to see and mix and confident brush marks hard to achieve? Would you like to learn all about practical colour theory and as a result create lush paintings with confident use of markmaking and colour? Then this is the class for you!

We will be inspired by the dynamic, painterly languages of Berthe Morisot and Edvard Munch and its all about lush painterly gesture and colour!

Artist and London Drawing tutor Nikki Gardham is a master of colour and colour theory – and has so much to offer with regard to handling of paint and use of colour.

Learn how to look for colour, tune into how colours bounce off each other and affect each other. Consider deep colour use, how to knit stronger colour with muted tones and how the masters of colour across history have developed their palettes and applied paint. We will be inspired by Berthe Morisot and Edvard Munch and look at how both artists used colour, layering and gesture in their work to produce intense light and glowing shadow, in flowing exuberant paintings.

This workshop is all about finding a more expressive vocabulary and your personal style and is packed full of practical tips to create strong, confident paintings- with loads of tuition and demonstrations to show you how to get started. This will really help with making more confident brushstrokes, using line, tone and colour, learning to work from thin to thick, using solvent in expressive ways to create washes, using medium to create lush & generous paintings.

A great day of creativity – perfect for beginners and ideal for those wanting to brush up on skills and learn more.

Some very sad news I’m afraid - Kevin of Colchester passed away on the 29 January after a long cancer treatment. We met Kevin in lock down as he joined in many of our online classes. He was such a great contributor to our sessions- always funny and self depreciating - and his drawing developed so much - he blossomed into a genuinely great artist, joining in so many classes not just with us but across London and Colchester. He also loved cricket and travelled around so much following all his sports interests in the Uk and Europe. He was such a face on the life drawing scene - he will be missed by many ❤️❤️

His funeral will be held at the Coop Chapel , Wimpole Rd Colchester- 24 February 2pm
with a wake at Starlight Chapel inside the grounds of Colchester cemetery.
Kevin donated to many charities - and rather than flowers - donations would be preferred:

Gesture, colour, character: Lose your painting inhibitions in this exciting and practical portrait workshop with award winning figurative artist Kim Scouller!

Starting with an introduction to the ideas behind her approach and artistic influences, the workshop will guide you through her process from composition ideas to the finished painting. You will be shown new ways to make marks and explore gestural paint handling to build the structure of the head. With plenty of demonstrations and one-to-one tuition to keep you on the right track.

Kim is a brilliant tutor and this workshop is a super day of inspired learning- with guaranteed results
