1975 ABI were becoming a real force in the holiday caravan industry one of many ranges they produced and still do 52 years later on

Charles Panter was a pioneer in the caravan industry with his double decker caravans and tiny tear drop model but also expanding sides too. His models were popular but the company was brought down by the sports car manufacturing side of the business - he tried again to revive the caravans but it never took off. I heard he died in poverty such a shame for a man that helped shape the caravan industry.

One from my personal archives - 1981 at Ingleton North Yorkshire at Trees - my Opel Ascona on left and dads new Astra -my brother and dads 1978 Ace Emperor DEB bought new as a end of season sale - in 1983 he bought a new ABI Rio Vista and had it till 1993

Love that price but by 74 prices were going through the roof as the cost of living went up and there were strikes - bit like 2023! the Moonbeam cost £860 - great days

With a new plastic coated aluminium cladding from 72 Pemberton introduced this profile looking very 70's -again many were to be seen on parks by the late 70's sales slumped Pemberton went bust being bought out by a small manager team - there Blackpool and Hull factories closed tourers stopped - yes Knowsely were built by Pemberton at the Blackpool factory for several years till 1980. Pemberton changed direction in the 80s to high end market units and cut out the mass produced churn them out caravans they had once produced.

Interior and plan of the 1972 Pemberton Moonbeam - at a whopping 9ft 6in width !!! but Pemberton were at their height of mass production selling many to hire fleet operators - Pemberton with Bluebird were seen in great numbers on parks in this era

Back then Pemberton were big producers of cheap but well made holiday caravans - many were exported into Europe - odd Pembertons from this era can still be found but in fewer numbers
