Shots of the incredible sight it's been around LA recently with all the snow. Walls of white peaks all around the city. Not many places can offer ski & surf days! It's just not what you imagine when you think of Southern California.
But thinking of the mess it's been for the mountain residents.....

And we are back!
Back to Cali, back to LA.
Back to Marina del Rey.
Back for another season with !
After the atlantic crossing Sarah got to spend some time in belgium.
Colin had to come back because Calico's engine died on us while we were away (yep...)
We are now reunited with our little coyote of a dog.
After spending last year renovating it, we are super excited to start cruising with our second boat, Alokoy.
And we got to start the season with some quality music festival! 👌
See yall soon!

- Chatham Bay -
Definitely always been one of our fav bay around. On the undevelloped west side of Union Island. It's protected but gets really shifty gust of winds. You swing around a lot. But the bay is huge, wild, and there is great snorkel/dive/fishing on each tip of the bay.
Just can find just a few small local bars and restaurants on the beach

.freja Safe and sound at the dock in Union.
After waiting out for the first lights of day a few miles offshore, we arrived to a calm (hungover?) Clifton harbor on the morning of the 1st of January, straight from Mindelo.

CHEERS!
To all the Peaks and Valleys! To hundreds of shooting stars and hours working on our constellation knowledge To our successful fishing the first few days, then too rough to deal For all the great meals we managed to make, but also thanks for chocolate, ramen, and crackers Seeing only two other sailboats, right in the middle, each on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, radio wishes and chating about each crossing was a special kind of gift The flyingfishes slapping you in the face during your night shift For still sharing coffees and laughs during difficult shift swiches To riding 20+ ft swells in 35kt christams winds, and surfing down at a record 14kt Starlink working for the last half of the trip fyi To freja for doing so great, and also holding on to her forestay and furler until the last day of the journey with best conditions To celebrating this new year arrival in the Grenadines To Anders and Ellen, for all the stories it took to make it here, to have shared this one with you, and to all the future coming now on this side of the pond.
Cheers to the 4 us!

And cheers for all of you who followed us along and sent us wishes

Canarias -> Cabo Verde
Part 3 : the sailing

It's aaaaaall down wind from here!

You rarely get the right amont of wind. You usually get too much or not enough. When it finally comes, its from the wrong direction. Well, that's sailing my friends.
We left Las Palmas at the right weather window, but knew we were gonna loose our wind down the road, which we did after a couple days.
We then decided to go south (up to only 80miles off the coast of Africa at some point - which was kinda cool) in hopes to catch some wind to fill up our sails again. Which allowed us to head south-west later on and get a pretty good angle to Mindelo.
When the night comes and the wind slows down, the name of the game changes. With less power, the boat is just surfing down the waves, bouncing around, now it's all about how to get down wind most comfortably.
Freja has all the sails needed, and we flew them all. Our favorite is probably the gennaker. But the colorfull spinnaker got a taste of wind as well.freja

Canarias -> Cabo Verde
Part 3 : sunrise sunset watches

They come back to us day after day, but never two the same! The clouds lighting on fire, maybe a green flash on a clear sky, pastelle palettes, or just the first lights of day touching your face.freja

Canarias -> Cabo Verde
Part 2 : the fishermen

Colin and Anders love fishing. It's a fact. And whoever knows them knows it.
It's an everyday mission on the boat, from sunrise to sunset, a mission that you have to be actively doing if you want it to be successful. Which we can definitly say that we were!
It's all about the different techniques of attraction, the right lure, the right speed, and pretty much...be constantly on it.
(Have to point out here, that Ellen's personnal slow trowling lure was the most successful of all!)
Never ran out of fresh fish on this leg, lots of tunas, lots of Mahis. And the freezer is full.
Thanks to our own fishermen and thanks to Neptune!
Hope to keep this going to the big crossing...

Canarias -> Mindelo - Cabo Verde
Part 1 : the chilling days

We definitely had days with almost no wind. At some point we were barely doing 1kt. No sailors like to motor. But we had to, half of those days.
Sometimes if was so flat, we keep the main sail up, but enjoy the calmness of the ocean. Using that time to catch up on some good sleep, swim in our 4000m deep pool, someone even got a haircut.
And we had dolphins visiting us daily.
Some days its still swelly and with almost no wind in our sails the bouncing around becomes quickly uncomfortable, pushing forward the decision to turn on the engines.
We still have a destination to get to, even if we love those chill days at sea.freja

Gran Canaria - what an incredible island!
Took the scenic route and were quite pleasantly surprised. Drove through the mountains in the center of the island, through some of the cutest villages.
We see now why people love it here. Would have loved to explore more.
For next time!

Made it to Las Palmas - Gran Canaria!
First leg of our atlantic crossing done
700nm - 6 days at sea
Left Oeiras Portugal on the 17th
Rough first couple of days
High seas and strong winds
Lost the main sail on the second night in a squall. Had to motor sail down wind with the jib for the remaining of the trip. Did pull up the gennaker a couple times tho.
But mainly surfing the waves and bouncing around.
The sun started showing up mid trip, put smiles back on our faces.
We caught a couple of tunas and took a dip in the Atlantic!
Now waiting for the sails to be fixed.
Going through our to-do list for the big crossing. Watching more world cup games, making friends on the dock talking Atlantic crossing,
And exploring the island!
