I think the most common question I am asked, is what is my favorite spot? The harder it is to reach a spot, the better.
I think The Lion Gate, at Hattusa, the capital of the Hittite Empire, may be my favorite spot. It's a two day drive from Istanbul through Turkey to reach this location. It's near nothing. It was once the capital of the Hittite Empire. The empire disappeared, almost over night, in something called the Late Bronze Age collapse. When every major, known, civilization disappeared.
