Anna’s “Emergency Wildlife Rescue Fund” ❤️🦏
The Rhino Revolution board has reviewed how best to use the funds that have been donated in Anna Mussi’s memory – to reflect her ethos of collaboration and compassion and to continue her legacy.
Further to requests from the local wildlife vets and knowing of Anna’s passion for animals and conservation – we have created an “emergency wildlife rescue fund” in Anna’s name.
This will be used for emergency veterinary procedures such as snaring injuries etc. It will be used to cover veterinary and helicopter or fixed wing costs. The vets have promised to help keep the fund ongoing and topping it up.
It’s a big relief for them to know there is money available when needed and they can quickly respond to emergencies. We will let you know about every animal rescue.
An incredible amount of R215 660 was raised through Facebook, Instagram and direct donations.

As the responses to the news of the death of our beloved Manager Anna Mussi flood in it is clear what we at RR already knew. At 32 she had made more impact than many in a lifetime in conservation. What a huge loss in so many ways to us all. This condolence from a state prosecutor says it so well as we start our first hard day without Anna at our core.
"Since I am not on social media, I want to take this opportunity to send my heartfelt condolences and support to you after the tragic loss of Anna. As a prosecutor of rhino related matters, I am acutely aware of the sacrifices champions like Anna make, and also of the crucial role these rhino soldiers play. When you truly love these huge elegant creatures and join the war to safe them, you become part of a very special and magic FAMILY. Our rhino family is now mourning the loss of one of our own. May God comfort all who loved her, and give you the perseverance to honour and keep alive the legacy she left. Rhino love. Ansie Venter"

This trip is still up for grabs!! Hot off the press!! Entry requirements for South Africa have been eased. Vaccinated travelers will NOT need to provide a pcr test before entry. USA still requires a pcr for reentry, but the pcr test in South Africa is cheap, and easy to obtain. We will help you with that before your return.

To all my USA Close Encounters friends. My Visa has been approved. I'm finally coming to see you all soon. Janice and I will be making the trip down to San Diego for a reunion weekend once I'm in Sequim with her. Can't wait to see you all and reminisce together around a "Timbavati Fire Pit" ❤

A World In One Country
Close Encounters is a family-run tour operator which specializes in small group, personalized, budget-conscious trips to Africa.
