Slovenia supports a tasty cheese-making tradition that began as early as the 1300's. A semi-hard cheese called Tolminc is an iconic product of the Julian Alps region. Made from the raw milk of a local cow breed that grazes at high altitudes, the flavor and aroma is complex and becomes more intensely tangy as it ages (a minimum of 60 months). A recipe featuring this special ingredient is "frika" - a potato and cheese wedge. We think the very best place to taste it is at a small family cheese farm high in the alps just inside Triglav National Park. It's deliciously decadent and served alongside many other local dishes like polenta, tomatoes, and sausage.

One of the areas we focus on is identifying strategic partners who are making a positive difference in the world and investing in them. This can be anything from the vans we rent, to the guides we hire, the local experiences we select, the places we shop, and even the administrative and logistical support we need. Here's a great example...

We needed a travel insurer and found one who is giving back locally to the travel destination (Nepal). In 2023 they not only donated 60,000 meals in SE Asia and Nepal, but they also invested in the education and training for young women at risk of being trafficked.

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting "above normal snowfall and colder-than-normal temperatures" this winter. I don't know where you will be in February, but for most of us (maybe all of us) the highlands of Mexico would be a monumental improvement!
