Just a few days remain until the September 14th deadline for reserving a spot on our Holiday Lights in the Azores trip.
If you've been thinking it would be nice to get away for a few days after Thanksgiving and before the holiday crush, now is the time to make your reservation. Airfare remains reasonable.
Fabian Monge of Trogon Tours took us to see the San Luis waterfall and then he and his family welcomed us to a wonderful Tican gathering at the family farm.

When we arrived at Refugio San Antonio yesterday, we were in the clouds. Today, we're in paradise.

Met up with Fabian Monge. Great limeade and steak at Chirripoberg Cerveceria. Fogged in at Refugio San Antonio but still beautiful. Great meal with great friends. And they have whoopie pies in Costa Rica!

Yesterday in San Jose. National Museum. Protesting cultural and education budget cuts. An Arenal Brew and smoked trout sandwich. Sunset from Hotel Presidente's rooftop bar.

Checked into Hotel Presidente in San Jose, Costa Rica yesterday. They've upgraded their rooms since my last stay. Very spacious! Amazing rain shower (seems appropriate for the rainy season). Lovely dinner with Mary Catherine Hayes last night at their rooftop bar -- forgot to take a pic. Delicious breakfast this morning. Gallo pinto!

One of my memories from my Oaxaca trip 8 years ago is the painted tin ornaments at La Casa de las Artesanías de Oaxaca. I bought enough to do an entire Christmas tree. They're so much fun and so colorful!

Oaxaca de Juárez is one of my favorite cities in Mexico and this loggia is one of my favorite places in Oaxaca. The loggia is in the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán. The convent is now the Cultural Centre of Oaxaca, an amazing museum! After several hours of looking at the exhibits, I came upon it and its view of the botanical garden next door. It is such an incredibly calming space to simply stop and ponder.
I'm hoping to take a group in the summer of 2025. Oaxaca is at 5,000 feet and has a nice, temperate climate in the summer when we're usually sweating here in the U.S.

Azoreans are some of the loveliest people I've ever met . . .
