Aristotle. Poetry in Mind is an organisation which established a Poetry Competition, open to all those who have been treated for a Mental Health Condition at some point and is an opportunity for them to speak openly and candidly of their own experiences of what treatment they received, or in so many cases, what ‘mis-treatment’
they received (!). The Organisation received some truly fascinating, Powerful and descriptive Poetry. Each and every Poet had their own story to tell and in more cases than not, these experiences were highly traumatic. Not surprisingly, as Medications were often forced upon Patients and caused more harm than good. Also, not surprisingly since the Hospital / Nhs settings were noisy and far
from Therapeutic.........
POETRY IN MIND is supported by: Mind, Sane, NHS, Priory Hospitals, Hay Festival (Hay-On-Wye Festival), The Poetry Library, The Poetry Society. Each Applicant will be asked to submit no more than 1 Poem each, no longer than 1000 words per Poem. The Deadline for all Applicants will be 1st Sept 2011. Each Applicant will receive a personalized message of thanks and constructive feedback for their Poetry entry on the Facebook Web-site. The winner will have the chance to have their Poetry Published within the charity, MIND’s, own associate literary project titled ‘Testimony’ and within the POETRY IN MIND own publication. The Publication will have a place in the British Library. The Winner will not only receive £250 (runners up, £50), but should hopefully have the chance to read their Poetry/ Have their Poetry read at the Prestigious Hay Festival, 2012.
