In one day we went from rowing a boat in Lake Bled to going up in a gondola to the top of the Vogel mountains! Slovenia is awesome! Who’s been or now planning on going?

Lake Bled is so beautiful! We did a short hike up to Mala Osojnica (trailhead is from Camping Bled parking lot) for this panoramic view. Really easy hike up the hill - took 20 minutes max, but provides the best views of Lake Bled. Pro tip: skip Bled Castle 😉

Rowing a wooden boat to the island with the church at the top of the hill is “the” thing to do in Lake Bled. Don’t let other Instagram posts fool you - it is hard work! Forearms were on fire! 🔥 Swipe right to see Melissa just chilling and enjoying the ride (and laughing at my crap rowing skills) 😂

Ljubljana from above! Flying the drone from the center of town got the attention of a funny drunk older guy who was really interested in the drone. I don’t think he really understood the concept of what the drone was 😂

Did you know that Slovenia has a 24 km or 15 mile long cave?? Tourism at Postojna Cave started in the 1800s - the cave got electricity even before the capital of Ljubljana! To get down to the caves you ride these railroad cars which definitely evoke Gringotts Bank (Harry Potter) vibes! Really cool experience!! @ Postojna

Slovenia has lots of caves and even has this castle built into the side of one! Predjama Castle is about an easy one hour drive outside of Ljubljana and also just up the road from Postojna Cave (probably the most visited place in Slovenia). This castle was under siege for more than a year and the owner of the castle would go through the secret tunnels behind the castle to get supplies. Unfortunately he was betrayed by a servant and a cannon ball got him while he went to the toilet... what a sh*tty way to die! 😂

Ljubljana is a fairytale city! We instantly fell in love. 😍 The town is centered around the river Ljubljanica, with lively cafes offering outdoor seating all along the river. We originally had only planned one full day for Ljubljana but quickly changed our plans to have more days because Ljubljana just made us so happy!

We’ve had this trip booked for months and have been looking forward to it since. We had plans to bask in the sun, wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts, go on hikes through the Julian Alps, and maybe even take a quick plunge in the Adriatic Sea, but we were greeted by cold, rain, and snow almost the entirety of this trip
How do you deal with reality not meeting expectations? Spending weeks looking forward to a trip only to have it foiled by bad weather really sucks. For some, a trip like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and we sympathize with the disappointment of a trip gone wrong. We are not above being disappointed, but fortunately, trips are no longer “once in a lifetime” for us. We have the luxury of traveling almost whenever we want and the mindset that we can always return in the future
On this day, we spent too much money on mediocre food because we wanted to watch the sunset from the port during dinner. And that’s okay! It was only one of three decent weather days on our entire trip, and we were going to take advantage of it

While it’s starting to feel like spring/summer in Houston, the last two days in Slovenia have definitely felt like winter. The heaviest jacket I brought was my Patagonia fleece, and it wasn’t enough - I almost bought a jacket from Hofer (their version of Aldi). So for now, we’re enjoying al fresco dining under the warm sun before it turns cold again later this week. 🌞

Happy Earth Day! We’ve taken a hiatus from Instagram due to our busy work schedules but felt compelled to post today. This quickly melting glacier in Norway is an example of how climate change is real and frightening. Our current trajectory puts the plant on course to warm by 4 degrees Celsius by 2100, which will lead to more sea level rise, more extreme weather events (droughts, heat waves, hurricanes), and threats to life on Earth. There is no denying that human activities are behind global warming, and we can all do our part to act on climate change. Stay informed. Vote climate. Plant trees. Reduce your carbon footprint. Spread the word. 🌎

The spectacle of the Aurora Borealis requires dark and partly clear skies. We watched the weather forecast, woke up at 3am, drove an hour away through a blizzard to where there would be a clearing in the clouds, and waited. The feeling when you finally spot the magical is indescribable. Overwhelmed by the power of nature. One time will never be enough.
