Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family!

Pioneer Bluffs Friends and Family: It is with a heavy heart to post this news.

On Saturday, Josh Hoy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Josh was currently serving as Vice President on the Pioneer Bluffs Flint Hills Ranching Heritage Center Board of Directors. Josh was well-known for his innovative conservation accomplishments. Alongside that, he was also known for his delicious chuckwagon meals and homemade ice-cream that he served at the Day of the Cowboy event last July.

Jim Hoy, Josh's father, passed away over the weekend also. Everybody in the Flint Hills either knew or knew of Jim Hoy, professor emeritus of English at Emporia State and director emeritus of the Center for Great Plains Studies. He was the author or co-author of nine books including Flint Hills Cowboys, Gathering Strays, and Tales from the Tallgrass Prairie.

Jim was also a founding Board Member of Pioneer Bluffs and played a profound role in establishing "Prairie Talks" at Pioneer Bluffs. He served as Vice President on the board from 2007-2013.

Jim and Josh will both be missed dearly. Pioneer Bluffs is grateful to have known and to be known by them. Together, they have left a mark that is irreplaceable and will be deeply missed by many.

Funeral arrangements are unknown at this time. Please keep the Hoy family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Snowflake parade at 11:00am, Christmas Artists' Studio Open House 10:00am-5:00pm--Saturday, December 7, is going to be a great day to be in Lindsborg!

Christmas in Lindsborg

Christmas Artists' Studio Open House, Saturday, December 7, is one of the best reasons to visit Lindsborg. Showcasing area artists in their studios with their art for sale, the Red Barn Studio Museum is the host to this unique opportunity. As noted in this NPR article, a significant piece of Christmas Artists' Studio Open House is Lester Raymer's Christmas tradition. https://tinyurl.com/3zk79h5c

Raymer created a toy for his wife every year as a Christmas gift, most toys being mechanical and all of them handmade. These marvels will be on display in the Red Barn on Saturday, December 7, and throughout the holiday season.

Walking through the Red Barn Studio Museum will inspire you to take a look again at something that is usually easily discarded: "The artist was adept at transforming ordinary items cast off by friends and neighbors. The gold embellishments on many of the toys he made, for example, are from sardine tins and cans of corn."

Get your creative juices flowing by experiencing Raymer's inventive and unstoppable creativity, and then witness how the spirit of Lester Raymer is alive and well in the art community of Lindsborg.
