There are currently no active wildfires in Banff National Park.

It's recommended to limit strenuous outdoor activity based on air quality conditions.

If smoke increases, the public, especially those with respiratory issues, should monitor the air quality index on Environment Canada's website (weather.gc.ca)

The “early bird” may get the worm but has no guarantee of parking at Lake Louise.
Good thing birds don’t drive. 🚫🚗🐦

🌅 This past weekend, the parking lot at Lake Louise was full in the early morning and remained at capacity until the evening. With the upcoming long weekend, visitors should expect parking to be extremely limited, if at all available.

🚍 To reach Banff National Park’s main attractions, rely on transit, walking, or cycling. Arrive with a plan for getting around the park, as driving to top attractions may not be possible.

💺 Additional shuttle seats are released on a rolling window, at 8:00 AM MDT two days prior to departure day. Seats for this Friday are available tomorrow. Explore your car-free options today: https://explorethepark.ca or https://parkscanada.gc.ca/banff-transit

Here’s some important information for visitors planning longer hikes in the Moraine Lake area.

Visiting Moraine Lake this summer?
📸 We recommend taking a screen shot of the below just in case you need it. 📸

On-call, after hours transportation is now available at Moraine Lake for visitors who miss their ride.

📣 What you need to know: 📣

1️⃣ Visitors arriving back to the Moraine Lake Day-use Area who have missed their planned ride are responsible for return transportation to their vehicle (including costs incurred).

2️⃣ If you return to Moraine Lake between 8 pm and 7 am, and require after hours transportation services, a public phone is located on the path leading up to the Moraine Lake Lodge building. This phone will allow you to connect to the approved provider who is permitted to operate on Moraine Lake Road for the current season.

3️⃣ 2024 on-call transportation provider and rates:
🚕 Fairview Limousine
📞 (403) 522-3736
• Moraine Lake to Lake Louise (Lakeshore or community) = $225 + GST for up to 4 people (each additional person = $50 + GST).
• Moraine Lake to the Town of Banff and surrounding area
$450 + GST for up to 4 people (each additional person = $50 + GST).

Please note: rates have been set by the service provider and Parks Canada does not receive any revenue from the fares paid by visitors who use the after hours transportation service.

Bears are out on the landscape and there is a chance you could encounter one while recreating in Banff National Park 🐻 Do you know what to do if you encounter a bear?
1️⃣Stay calm.
2️⃣Get your bear spray out & be prepared to use it.
3️⃣Back away slowly and, if possible, return the way you came. Do not run away!
4️⃣When it is safe, call Banff Dispatch 📞403-762-1470

Again this summer, a number of mitigation measures will be taken in the highly-trafficked Lake Louise area to allow wildlife the opportunity to pass through with minimal human disturbance.

The following seasonal closures and restrictions will be in place from May 15th to October 15th, 2024:
⚠️ Seasonal (summer) closure of the Bow River Loop – west side of the river between the pedestrian bridges at Lake Louise Campground (hard-sided) and Lake Louise Train Station. The east portion of Bow River Loop Trail will remain open, along with the west side between Lake Louise Tent Campground and Lake Louise Drive allowing access to the Louise Creek trail.
⚠️ Closure of the parking lot at the Great Divide Trailhead. The trail will remain open with parking options in the Village of Lake Louise and at the Lake Louise lakeshore.
⚠️ Tramline Trail will remain open under an advisory. Pedestrians are advised to use the Louise Creek Trail, so Tramline Trail may remain a safer alternative to Lake Louise Drive for cyclists.
⚠️ Other unnamed, social trails between the Lake Louise village and the lake will be closed to focus human activity on the Louise Creek and Tramline trails.

Originally implemented as a two-year pilot program in 2022, additional data is required to evaluate the effectiveness of the closures and develop strategies to minimize wildlife disturbance in this well-visited area of the park.

Please visit the Important Bulletins webpage for current closures and restrictions within Banff National Park: https://ow.ly/TcCQ50RHAUy

⚠️ Planning on driving to Banff National Park through the Banff East Gates within the next month? You need to know the following when planning your trip:

🔨👷 There will be a major utility upgrade project occurring at the East Gate over the next few weeks that will have major impacts to normal traffic patterns. Construction activities are expected to begin on Tuesday April 16th and will be completed on May 3rd (weather permitting).

🚧 To allow the work to be completed, both lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway at the East Gates will be closed for 8 days, and through-traffic will be re-directed to Lane 1 while the work is underway. Lane closures may result in delays, so visitors and local residents should plan ahead and give themselves extra time.

🎟️ Park pass sales will continue through the open lanes.

🛑 👷 Please slow down and be mindful of on-site workers. Follow the directions of the signage, video message boards and traffic flaggers.

Parks Canada shuttles continue to offer another way for visitors to access the lakes. Youth under 18 ride for free, seniors’ tickets are half price, and tickets for adults are only $8.

🚧Construction:
Beginning in spring, Parks Canada will be making important improvements to Lake Louise Drive. These improvements are necessary to maintain and upgrade infrastructure for transit, vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians on this roadway that now hosts over one million vehicles each year. Visitors can expect significant traffic disruptions this summer due to construction: https://ow.ly/1G9U50QZQXK

📣Please plan ahead, take transit, and book shuttles before arriving. If you don’t have shuttle or transit tickets, please consider returning after securing reservations in advance.

🔥 It is hot out there!

Looking to cool down? Our Canmore Fire-Rescue team will be setting up a misting shower on Main Street today (Friday) through Sunday between 1-8 p.m. (dependent on emergency calls).

While heat can be nice, it can also be dangerous. Here are some steps you can take to prevent heat and UV injuries:

💧 Cool spaces with water fountains are available at Elevation, the Canmore Recreation Centre, and the Civic Centre (Mon-Fri).
💧 Take frequent breaks from the heat.
💧 Wear sun protection and stay out of the sun during the hottest periods of the day.
💧 For information about how to prepare for an extreme heat event and what you can do to protect yourself, including understanding the signs of heat illness, visit: https://bit.ly/3azjuKa
💧 NEVER, EVER leave a pet (or person) in a locked car with windows closed when temperatures are above 15C. Don't risk their lives - even for a few minutes.
