Ahhh, the last storm of the day throwing out little lightning zits around the top of the updraft column as it passes near Plains, Texas. Looking resplendent during blue hour, I grabbed this shot before we had one last throw of the dice as the storm went tornado warned but when we got there the storm was quite evidently winding down. It gave a fantastic night-time lightning show though which really lit up and showed off its structure (I shared that image several weeks ago). Check out the size of that back-sheared anvil as well; just absolutely immense!!! 😍🥰

Stu with another beautiful shot!

Being underneath a shelf cloud once the sun has gone down is sometimes like being underwater. The base of the cloud turns this glassy azure blue as the twilight refracts through the storm and pockets of light strobe all around as lightning flashes deep within. Ocassionaly that lightning escapes the confines of the cloud to stab into the clear air, momentarily turning that aqueous cloud base into vibrant magenta. This storm rapidly upscaled into a massive state-wide MCS which we had to race to keep ahead of, eventually stopping at Colby, KS to let it engulf us. For all its size though, it was relatively tame but still very pretty storm of which these were the best lightning strikes I caught from it.

Here's a nice little shelf from a dying storm near Monticello, MN this year. A new state for us to chase in which was a lot of fun! Our 2025 chase is now only 10 months away 😭🤣but I'm sure time will fly by. Who's looking forward to it?!

BOOM! ⚡️ Check out this fantastic lightning barrage just west of Lamar, Colorado. This storm was throwing out some spectacular lightning bolts though, annoyingly, none of them were dropping in the region of the storm I was trying to timelapse. Not wanting to miss out on the action, and to up my lightning tally, I pointed my camera north for a few moments and grabbed these little beauties. I needn't have worried either way as I think See Nature's Fury sat in this spot for about 3 hours as this storm spent all afternoon getting its act together. If I wasn't driving I would have gladly cracked open a cold one 🍺 What an afternoon!!! 🌩🌪

What a day this turned out to be! We followed this supercell from birth near Thedford, Nebraska, and was able to stick with it until it eventually rolled off to our east. At its peak near Ansley, Nebraska, she was very mean and dropping baseball sized hail! The hail roar from this storm was the best we've ever heard, constantly grumbling away overhead. The colours and the structure were just out of this world too!

What a stunner this was! Twisting and turning away, mammatus on show and some incredible lightning too! Only 10 months to go 😭🤣

The last supercell of the day, in its death spiral, near Plains, TX back on May 30th. After shooting the best looking LP supercell near Denver City, we jogged the short distance north to Plains for this tornado warned supercell and shot some amazing blue hour lightning as the storm died. Lightning always seems confined to the upper reaches of the storm when they're in their final throes which is amazing for lighting up their structure and makes for some great photography.

Stu with a beautiful stacked lightning image from Nebraska this year. She sure was pretty as she drifted off in to the sunset! ⚡😎

What an incredible day of chasing this was - the Broken Bow / Kearney NE storms of June 7th were just the gifts that kept on giving. After the last storm began to die, See Nature's Fury punched on through to the sunny side and watched the most stunning lightning display as the sun went down. Some of the bolts shooting out of the enormous back sheared anvil were incredible amidst the vibrant sunset. The frequency of the lightning was just absurd and I've stacked (badly) some of the bigger bolts here.
