Introduction to Dudh K***a Trek
The Dudh K***a lies high in the mountains of the Southern Solukhumbhu directly under the Numbulr Himal Range and has several lakes with milky water. It lies off the beaten Treks and is perfect for nature lovers. It is a mixture of teahouse and camping trek and can be done easily in 8-10 days from Kathmandu or even in shorter time changing slightly the route. The trek goes into the Sherpalands and gives a great insight of their lifestyle. This is also an ideal Trek for people living in the Valley. Dudh K***a, a holy lake surrounded by mountainous terrain and believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, is a popular destination for Hindu pilgrimage tour and for adventure trekkers. Dudh K***a situated in the lap of Mt. Numbur, locally known as Shorong Yul Lha, Protector of Solu region. Dudh K***a (which literally means milky lake) is believed to be a holy lake and the locals believe that taking a dip in the holy waters will have the wishes granted also where you will enjoy and see panoramic Himalayan views of Everest, Number, and Everest Himalaya range also Green forest with Rhododendron flowers, pine tree, wild animals ,birds such as Mountain Thars, Bears, Leopard, Jackal, Pheasant and Milky lake. Devotees believe that taking a dip in its holy cold water would absolve them from all their sins as well as bless childless families with children. During full-moon nights in August, pilgrims and Jhankris (Shaman Priests) hold a week-long celebration here. On the trail to Dudh K***a, you’ll pass through Kaku, Basa, Taksindu and Beni, where you’ll see some breathtaking panoramic views of mountain peaks, sparkling waterfalls and tranquil lakes that will entice you to stop. As you continue on, you’ll pass through dense forests of rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal, which are in bloom from March to May. Also in the fall (September to December) when the weather is temperate and the skies are clear you can see these wild flowers in full bloom. Views of flora and fauna as well as a variety of wildlife will catch your attention but not slow you down. However, the hospitality of the locals is one of the most heart-warming experiences one can come across in this area and they may have you stop to chat or entice you with something delicious to eat. This area has many diverse ethnic groups living here such as Sherpas, Khaling Rais, Tamangs, Magars, and Gurungs so interacting with them makes your trip even fuller than your stomach. Dudh k***a trekking is admired trekking trail lies in Solu Khumbu region though less crowded then the nearest in Khumbu Himal range. Dudh K***a (Milky Lake) is lies at the foot of Number Himal, Dudh K***a Trekking trail taking you through dense forests of rhododendron and a variety of wildlife. The hospitality of the locals is one of the most heart warming experiences of the Solu area with long experience. In every August there is an influx of devotees of Hindus and Buddhist who come to perform cleansing ritual at the lake. At other time you are unlikely to meet anyone on this rarely traveled trail. Authentic Sherpa villages and Sherpas culture, rhododendron and magnolia forest, Buddhist Monastery to a series of beautiful lakes of which Dudh K***a is the most revered.
