Self-knowledge might be the most difficult of life’s rewards — the hardest to earn and the hardest to bear. To know yourself is to know that you are not an unassailable fixity amid the entropic storm of the universe but a set of fragilities in constant flux. To know yourself is to know that you are not invulnerable.

The honest encounter with that vulnerability is the wellspring of art: Every artist’s art is their coping mechanism for the extreme sensitivity to aliveness that we call beauty — the transcendent and terrifying capacity to be moved by the world, to let something outside us stir deeply something within us. All great art — and only honest art can be great — is therefore the work of vulnerability and all integrity the function of fidelity to one’s fragilities.

At a certain point in every life, each of us has to carry weight that seems more than we can carry. We know the answer is prayer, but remembering to pray, getting into a prayer routine and persevering when it gets difficult can take years to master. Many people just give up. But, those who persevere develop a friendship with God that can help them weather anything.

For our heart to be purely open to supreme reality we require the simplicity of a child, to sit still in the presence of God and to remain open at the beginning of each day. Even so, our day can often drift into distraction, meaninglessness, anxiety or illusion. Then the evening meditation again gathers the scattered parts and binds them together in the love of Christ...
..do not think of your meditation as..."putting a bit of spirituality" into your life. See it rather as informing your whole day with reality: the supreme reality that we now have access to God with freedom.

Evolution has devised a mind-boggling number of amazing methods for perpetuating life on Earth. But one of nature’s most impressive tricks is pumping the brakes on pregnancy with a process known as embryonic diapause. This isn’t a rare prenatal feat, either: An estimated 130 mammal species — such as mice and seals — can pause a pregnancy for anywhere from a few days to as many as 11 months, as is the case with the tammar wallaby (Notamacropus eugenii). The pause usually occurs during the blastocyst stage, when an embryo forms in the uterus but doesn’t embed into the uterine wall until conditions are right.

Scientists have identified two reasons why some mammals pause pregnancies. When animals are nursing, a rise in hormones prevents embryos from implanting, which gives the nursing young time to wean off their mother. The second reason is a bit more complicated, but certain animals can pause pregnancies when external conditions — such as a lack of food or harsh temperatures — are not ideal for raising a newborn. Scientists have known about this kind of diapause since at least the 1850s, but are only now beginning to understand its inner workings. In 2020, a study found that a catalytic enzyme known as mTOR — which regulates cell proliferation, growth, and protein synthesis, and also senses a cell’s nutrient and energy levels — instigated a metabolic response related to diapause when it was inhibited. Scientists are still piecing together exactly why humans, who also have mTOR enzymes, can’t pause pregnancies; understanding how this process works could lead to advancements in stem cell research and cancer treatment.

Before the advent of social media and text messaging, postcards were the primary medium for sharing short thoughts and ideas with other people — they were all the rage in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

“An epiphany enables you to sense creation not as something completed, but as constantly becoming, evolving, ascending. This transports you from a place where there is nothing new to a place where there is nothing old, where everything renews itself, where heaven and earth rejoice as at the moment of creation.”

WE HAVE MANY FREE AND LOW COST SIGHTSEEING EVENTS WE WILL DECIDE ON AT THE TRIP PREPARATION MEETING SUNDAY MAY 17 2PM. TONY AWARD NOMINATIONS ARE GIVEN OUT IN EARLY MAY GIVING US PLENTY OF TIME T

30/11/2018

Southwest Airlines has their schedule opened through June 8, not through June 10. So……

The Tony Awards recently decided to hold the awards on June 9 just as we planned.
As soon as we get the next extension from Southwest we will proceed with our group reservations.

As of now we got a great contract with the Belvedere Hotel with its wonderful location in the heart of the shows and the many free and low cost tours so here is our standing as of October 21

Hotel will be Belvedere Hotel. Wonderful contract includes everything possible we have ever asked for at a lower cost than the past three years.

Ground transportation has been secured with the same providers we have used in the past. All the many luxuries and extras at last year’s prices locked in.
My preference is to stay with Southwest round trip using Newark if possible.
The final costs of hotel, Luxury Coaches and airline have all the built-in savings for all the hidden charges that are all included in the final low cost. We really get a huge bargain for what we do. Strangers keep telling me it does not seem possible.

While we have over 35 people right now expressing an interest I need real deposits from enough people to proceed with this trip June 4 to June 10 2019.

Our traditional theater trip allows people to pick any show, musical, play, entertainment on or off Broadway and attend one show for all six days and easily add three other shows on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
We offer lots of tours every day we are there and focus on tours especially on Thursday and Friday.
We specialize on serving the needs of anyone on a tight budget especially students. Broadway has made many changes to serve the needs of the growing population desiring to see its shows with many ways to acquire low cost tickets. About 100 professional performances are offered all over New York City by small experimental group including TV shows that need audiences and some even give out prizes and other free rewards.

So please pass along this offer to any friends and family members soon.
Those who are coming this year need to make sure their deposits have been sent. $150 per person and $500 first deposit for October.

Looks like we will have over 20 plays this year to choose from with many wonderful stars. The 12+new musicals look outstanding with the variety of themes and stars. Almost every previous show has come down in price if anyone missed any of the recent great hits they will be available next June.

The changes since our meeting last month would be these:
1. Round trip using SWA from Newark this year.
2. Monday return would be the early afternoon flight instead of the evening.
3. Group farewell breakfast on a Monday then a relaxed checkout and go right to Newark.
4. We have the hotel socials every evening including the day of arrival at 5PM
5. We have the theater discussion socials in the two parks near the hotel in both the early morning and early afternoon for those that want to talk theater.
6. The meet and greets will be set up with our May Tours meeting for any show and any star anyone is interested in.
7. Our January meeting will make the group discount decisions for the 5-6 shows we see as a group this year. All the single ticket purchasing of shows will be done after that.
8. TV shows, museums, indoor tours are great for rainy weather at the last minute. All the big new tours that are outdoor and require lots of walking can be worked in with Uber and cabs if needed. We basically can do the entire trip for many by staying in a five-block radius of our hotel but everyone is free to fly their own wings and reach out and ask for help too.
9. Friday/Saturday late night options can be discussed and finalized at both the January and May meetings. The parades, neighborhood fairs, all the big celebrity events can easily be added to the planning charts when we work out the final details at the May meeting or any of the extra help sessions held in Saint Louis.

If anyone has any other questions I am available. Jim Braibish has set up our website and Facebook for 2019. All the good work that Maury Pepper did last year will still be used this year.

Douglas Nickle is my “helper” this year. If you did not meet Doug at the September meeting he is 65 and retired. He will try to fill the shoes of my three wonderful helpers last year Colleen, Tammy and Maury.
Doug will be keeping the financial records for our trip up to date at our Overland offices but please keep sending deposits to
1011 North Clay Kirkwood Mo 63122.

Every day I get Facebook reminders from my ten years on Facebook with so many amazing friends who have become part of my soul, part of my story as a child of God embracing hope and healing through the process of forming a culture community of compassion. If you are reading this email you have shared a piece of that journey with me and I remain grateful to you.

Since my first visit to New York in 1967 I experienced God there. That high intense energy I felt and experienced in New York seemed divine to me as a “child of 17”. I love to see so many people helping each other and being kind to each other in their own special way. It still inspires me.

Every time I write, produce, direct or star in a play or help create an adventure or a memory with any group of others, I experience God’s Grace becoming released into the community.

It continues to give me so much hope for the future especially for my children and grandchildren.

Grainne and I continue to enjoy our grandkids and look forward to seeing many of you at local shows and in New York.

God bless

Joe
PS If anyone needs the September meeting handouts emailed to them we can send them out. We have plenty of the color posters we made for both ADULT GROUPS, FAMILIES, and HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE KIDS TOO.
