Work on the Farm

Mid-spring farm work at Chestnut Brae presents its own set of challenges. With plants growing rapidly, the main hurdle is keeping pace. The grass shoots up, and the trees burst into full leaf, marking a season that appears to be around two weeks earlier than the previous year.

This week, we welcome the bees to the orchard to kickstart their vital work. Fifteen hives are strategically placed in a straight line, diligently collecting honey from the chestnut flowers.

Chestnut honey holds a prestigious position among the world's best honeys. Despite facing challenges in obtaining pure honey from our flowers over the last two years, we're optimistic about achieving it this year.

Not only is Chestnut Honey known for its rich and dark profile, but it also boasts high nutritional values, particularly in Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and potassium.

Great article! Just don’t wade in at 4pm expecting an almond milk latte…we love you but we’re also kinda small and remote, so we go without a lotta those kinda things…!! And go home early to light the fire 🔥
