www.isvolunteers.org. -SBU Student Rep Jenna (please mention my name on your app!) In summer 2010, I traveled with ISV to Costa Rica to combine volunteering and adventure. It was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Now I'm a Student Representative for ISV, and I am helping them find more SBU volunteers to support the program! I know you're first thought is probably about the cost, but I wil
l talk about that at the end. First I want to tell you about ISV's volunteer programs in Australia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, New Zealand, South Africa, and Thailand!! They have conservation projects, which promote helping the environment, and community projects, which benefit the lives of the locals. The programs are customizable, but most volunteers choose to work on a volunteer project for two weeks and then take the adventure tour for another two! That's what I did. In Costa Rica, I got to work with endangered Leatherback sea turtles! I did beach patrols, worked with nesting turtles, worked in a hatchery, and released hatchlings into the Caribbean! I met some awesome people from all over the world and got to experience the culture first-hand. Then on the adventure tour, I went white-water rafting, surfing, zip-lining, rappelling, horseback riding, snorkeling, kayaking and more! We also got to go to a mud spa and relax in volcanic hot springs. :) I had the most fun in my life there!!! The first concern that people always have with this is cost, but it's easy to fundraise. You may be surprised by the amount of people who want to donate to your cause! I can help you with that and give you ideas. When you apply, please mention my name on your application!
