The largest Confederate monument in the world, Stone Mountain near Atlanta, sparks debate over its historical ties and symbolism. While some call for its removal due to connections with the Ku Klux Klan and its completion in the 1970s, others see it as a preservation of history. Beyond the controversy, the site offers sweeping views, unique geology, and a peaceful nature escape.

This is Four Corners Monument, and it’s the only point in the United States shared by four states: Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
It’s about 4 hours from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but otherwise in the middle of nowhere, so you usually have to go quite out of your way to visit.
Entry is $8 per person, and the site is located on tribal land managed by the Navajo Nation. People come from all parts of the country to line up for photos and videos at the common corner, sometimes straddling all four borders. However, you’re only supposed to take 3 photos to keep the line moving.
At one point, there was some controversy when reports claimed that the monument was 2.5 miles west of its intended location.
Later, it was clarified that the monument is actually about 1,800 feet east of where it was originally planned. However, because one of the original land surveys was accepted, the borders at the monument are considered legally binding.
When you visit, be sure to grab some lemonade and fry bread from one of the vendors. You can also buy jewelry or souvenirs if you’d like.

This historic battlefield lets you to explore its ruins with golf carts.
It’s fort lancaster located in west texas near Sheffield Texas and it’s a fun way to experience some lone star state history.
The fort was built in 1855 to help provide more security for people traveling on the San Antonio el paso road en route to California. It was one the forts where the Army experimented with the use of camels for military transportation
It’s also the only US Army post in Texas attacked by native americans as back in 1867 60 soldiers and officers of Company K, including many Buffalo Soldiers, held off an estimated 1200 Kickapoo and allies.
Most of the fort is in ruins but it’s still fun to explore. Admission is only $5 but comes with a golf cart you can rent to take you around and see the former structures like the barracks, hopsital, and over 20 others.
The dog friendly visitor center also has a lot of exhibits to check out to learn more about the fronteri era of Texas.

Plymouth, Massachusetts, marks the site of the Pilgrims’ landing in 1620, and the town is steeped in rich history — here’s what to explore.
Stroll through Burial Hill, where you’ll find grave markers and cenotaphs for figures like William Bradford and Squanto, all located on the founding site of the original colony and fort.
The Pilgrim Hall Museum houses fascinating art and artifacts and is one of the only places where you can touch a piece of Plymouth Rock.
You’ll also find many statues, including The National Monument to the Forefathers, a massive monument filled with symbolism and well worth a visit.
Plymouth Rock might be one of the biggest letdowns, but it’s still worth seeing — if only for a laugh and a chat with a park ranger. Plus, it’s right next to Mayflower II, a faithful reproduction of the original Mayflower, which you definitely want to board.
The Plymouth Grist Mill still operates on weekends to grind corn and can be visited, while the Plymouth Patuxet Museum recreates a seventeenth-century Pilgrim village, complete with demonstrations and displays of Wampanoag structures.
Another cool experience is enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner in Plymouth, which comes in many different forms.

This is Crazy Horse, which one day might be the largest mountain sculpture in the world.
It depicts the Lakota warrior, Crazy Horse, and it’s found in the Black Hills of South Dakota, near Mount Rushmore.
The finished product is expected to be 641 feet long and 563 feet high. Some feel it’s a tribute to the spirit of Crazy Horse and Native American culture, but others think it desecrates a sacred mountain landscape.
The project began in 1948, and the sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski [core-chalk jewel-cuff-ski], originally thought it would take 30 years to finish. But today, the aspirational work of art still has a long way to go.
They are actively working on parts like the left hand and forearm and part of the horse’s mane and head, which are expected to be finished in 5-10 years.
The foundation behind the project doesn’t accept government funding, but visitors feel that in the prices.
Entry was $24 for the two of us, and we paid another $5 each to take a shuttle bus to get closer to the base. If you want to go any closer, you’ll have to make a $125 donation. But hey, they do offer free rocks from the site.
There’s other stuff to see, like the Indian Museum of North America, which has a lot of artifacts and interesting exhibits. You can also check out other areas of the complex, including a restaurant and collections with random memorabilia, like one of Shaq’s shoes.
