We started out with night street photography with the Night Collective, formed in 2009 by us Beirut dwellers seeking to understand the city more through the whispers of its night streets, a filter for all things mundane. With time, this got us more attached to Beirut, more understanding of its people, a haven from the chaos of the city days. Political instability around that period made people mor

e wary of photographers, especially at night, so we slowly took refugee in the night landscapes surrounding Beirut. After breaking out of Beirut's light polltion, facing the complex structure of the night sky naturally led to rekindle the passion for astronomy, ask more questions, become intimate again with the details of the night sky. Plenty of astronomy books later, a lot of answered questions, we started BeirutVersus for astronomy / astrophotography that both seeks to show the beauty of the night skies and provide an escape from the unstructured, chaotic, unpredictable city of Beirut into the rhythmic, cyclic patterns of our night skies.
