After running in the Memorial Day Dash this morning, I was able to spend more time visiting Fort Negley.

This historic site is located just outside of downtown Nashville.

The Fort is the largest stone fortification built during the Civil War. It was built by more than 2700 conscript laborers, predominately contrabands (runaway slaves) and free Blacks, atop St. Cloud Hill. The Fort was instrumental in the defeat of General Hood in the Battle of Nashville in December 1864.

If you are a history buff, consider spending some time at Fort Negley during your visit to Nashville!

The Flag Retreat Ceremony 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

This daily event takes place in Town Square off of Main Street USA. During the ceremony, a group of veterans is invited to participate in the lowering and folding of the American flag. The flag is then presented to a selected guest of honor, who is recognized for their service to the country. There is even a performance of the National Anthem played by a live band.

The ceremony is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served our country and a symbol of the respect and gratitude we have for their service. If you ever get the chance to witness the Flag Retreat ceremony at Magic Kingdom, it's an experience you won't forget!
