This is a collection of images taken while our group of birders was moving along a trail in the highlands of Choco in the ProAves Las Tangaras Reserve, Colombia. Our hike on this trail was really lovely and we saw many beautiful birds, 63 species to be exact. Much of the time we were in mature dense forest and it was very hard to get a picture of the birds we were encountering. Therefore, it was a treat to have a clear well lit view of an Ornate Flycatcher. Another cool thing was having an Olivaceous Piha follow us for quite awhile. A really nice waterfall marked the end of the trail. It was very refreshing to spend time near the cascading water.

Last night at the Prairie Falcon Audubon meeting in Twin Falls, Idaho 4 members shared their trip report for the recent Majestic Feathers bird tour in Colombia. In these images Jeff Rupercht is telling the group about the geography of the birding areas that we covered. Sarah Harris shared a map of the eBird entries that she made and shared lots of great pictures from the trip. The last image is of the map of our route. The solid lines are the 2 domestic flight we took and the green line on the maps is our land route. Majestic Feathers is formulating another trip to Colombia. On the recent Majestic Feathers Colombia birding tour this Ornate Flycatcher was photographed in the Los Tangaras Reserve. Ornate Flycatchers occupy the understory of humid montane forest between 2,296 ft and 7,217 ft. in elevation. The are typically found around openings in the forest, such as at treefalls or along the margins of streams, where they perch in a low, open place and sally for insects. There was a pair of them foraging together and it typical for them to be seen in pairs or just one individual usually not in a flock.

Kathleen Cameron of Majestic Feathers and several Majestic Feathers alumni were recently featured in an Eye on Sun Valley online article about David Sibley at the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival. Majestic Feathers alumnus Kathryn (Poo) Wright-Pulliam who was the Artist in Residence on the 2014 Costa Rica tour: All These Amazing Birds and Learning to Draw Them Too! is quoted and shown with Sibley in this article. Not quoted but in attendance at the festival was alumnus Zeke Watkins. There are a couple of corrections that need to be added to this article: 1 regarding the Thayer's Gull, it was a first summer. 2. it was John Bellmon that told Sibley that Poo was the birder that had the Siberian Accentor in her yard. 3. it was Kathleen that saw her "lifer" Gyrfalcon and later realized that it was author Jerry Liguori (Hawks From Every Angle) that was along side her enjoying the bird. Kit Struthers also an alumnus and Kathleen were birding together that day near Aston, Idaho. Attending birding festivals is great fun!
