Shipyard - Marine Consultancy - Design Office - R&D TaraTari Shipyard was created by Yves Marre, Managing Director.

Mr Marre is French, sailor, and actor of development projects in countries such as Bangladesh, subject to different problematic due to water constraints. More than 19 years experience of boatbuilding in Bangladesh starting in 1994, creating floating solutions for those requiring specific help in order to sustain and sometime survive on the various type of water, rivers or sea. Ever since, many sol

utions have already been researched, developed and implemented such as Floating Hospitals, River Ambulances, Fishing Boats, Safe Passenger Carriers and many more. With bringing into the researches and implementations foreign engineers and designers specialists, TaraTari provides optimum solutions to diverse demands and requirements with constant concerns for the highest standards of construction and safety. The social values of the director and associates of the project allow TaraTari to invest the major amount of its profits into research and developments in order to multiply those essential floating solutions. The expertise of TaraTari in material for marine vehicles construction varies from wood to steel, but mainly emphasis on composite building with the use of fibre glass for longevity and safety technical aspects.

A new concept in water transportation. Particularly adapted for NGOs personnel

If we compare the Speed boat to a car, we can compare the “Golden Arrow” to a motorcycle.
1. It is cheaper to buy – Tk 295 000 inclusive of all
2. It is cheaper to run – Its 12.5 hp motors consumes 280 gr octane/horse power ≈ 4 litres/hour
3. It is cheaper to maintain – The fiberglass hull needs only cleaning. Its light Chinese motor can be easily maintained
4. It sails et a speed between 20 Km/h+ to 30 Km/h (according to load and state of water)
5. Perfect for use of civil servants – doctors – teachers – NGO personnel to reach their distant locations faster
6. It is perfect for personal/family and fun to use on small rivers or lakes
7. And its capacity is the one of a CAR (1 driver + 5 passengers)
8. It has some water & weather condition limitations – For Safety reasons, it cannot be used at sea and under storms or strong winds and waves (winds over 20 Km/h on wide water bodies)

Next morning was bright and sunny

until the afternoon when night fell at around 2 o’clock. The same scenario, the same fury of the elements… We had resumed our voyage, heading across the river towards another island for the night. Dropping with fatigue, again it was the thunder and the noise of our Sunflower kayak bashing against the hull of the Country boat where we were sleeping that woke us in a display of lightning like fireworks around 1 o’clock in the morning.
I quickly got ready to protect the wing-sail as before but the wind was so strong that we could not get to it and could only watch from the shelter of the roof of the country boat and my all-weather hat as our kayak tried to destroy itself against the hull. The waves quickly filled the hull with water till it was only supported by its built-in buoyancy and the outriggers. The wing-sail whirled around in response to each gust, presenting the least possible drag, and it held together without damaging a single piece.
I, the builder, by now convinced by the quality of this wing-sail and knowing how carefully it had been built, was still surprised that it had survived as the winds were probably around 100 km/hr.
A second squall a few hours later convinced me to abandon this crossing of Bangladesh

and to complete it during the kinder post-monsoon season
because even if the Sunflower and its wing-sail could survive,

there were dozens of human casualties of the lightning, falling trees and flying roofing.

The first 100km on the Brahmaputra was a rare and intense emotional experience of the beauty and softness of the countryside as much as the fury of the elements; the wind and the strength of the current.

We were touched by the simplicity and kindness of the people who welcomed us on their unstable banks.

We admired the way they persevered while surviving in such a challenging environment, exposed to the raw forces of nature.

We will return as soon as possible to resume our full sailing across Bangladesh as the largest delta in the planet has many secrets to be revealed from its sacred rivers.

2° Our great project of:
- MSRS (Maritime Search & Rescue Society) meant to provide assistance to the seafarers of the Bay of Bengal and users of the main rivers of Bangladesh.

Third episode:
Everything was going well in this, “the best of all possible worlds” until the afternoon of 28th March.
While beating against a contrary southerly wind, we saw the night fall early behind us in the North West. The inky black sky warned me of the imminent arrival of an early Kalbaishaki, a fierce tropical storm.

We had to get to the now invisible bank as quickly as possible. We had barely secured our anchor in the earth when the wind exploded onto us with massive gusts creating a sand storm closely followed by horizontal sheets of driving rain and hail. The gusts were reaching 80 km/hr making me worried that our kayak was going to fly away on its wing. I had set it to align with the wind and as it was only four metres high, like this it had minimum drag. Lightning criss-crossed the sky.

The violence of the storm kept up for an hour or so, eventually leaving us relieved that we had survived such violent winds without sustaining damage or injury, but totally numb, soaking wet and exhausted.
A second storm only a little less violent hit us in the night.

Second episode
It was an ambitious trip on this immense river which in places is up to 15km wide, where the melting snows of the Himalayas, added to the rains of the summer monsoon, overtop the banks and fill the surrounding floodplains.
In places the current was strong, with turbulence and whirlpools dramatically eroding the banks, creating new islands or “Chars” and repeatedly displacing the unfortunate inhabitants who are forced to adapt to the whims of this sacred river.

Our trip, while ambitious, began well with a gentle north-east breeze interspersed with occasional thermal winds from the south. Our speed varied between 9 and 13 kilometres an hour.

The scenery was as enormous as the impression it made. The population of the “Chars” and other watchers on the banks were fascinated by our frail and curious boat but invariably welcoming and helpful.

My friends Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prévaut, founders of the naval architecture office VPLP, designed and engineered the giant trimaran that won the 2010 America’s Cup with a Wing-sail (similar to the wing of an aircraft with a flap on its trailing edge.)
In line with their concept, I adapted a kayak built by my boatyard Taratari in Bangladesh to carry a wing-sail. This is the Sunflower which can also be propelled by a 500Watt electric motor powered by solar panels.
To bring this to the public’s attention, with my crew Darpan Chakma I started on the Brahmaputra River where it crosses the Indian frontier with the intention of descending through the biggest river delta in the world all the way to the Bay of Bengal.
