We've discovered a new cycling podcast recently that is funny, informative and insightful. We also got a shout-out on their latest episode (10)...thanks to an old and loyal friend of 44|5! Check Ned and the gang out.

Hosted by Ned Boulting, David Millar and Pete Kennaugh. The three talk about lots of things, although they never stray far from the core issue, bike racing. Expect guests from the racing world and some proper old school reporting from the road side.

Stage Four (Austria) of our multi-year Project Trans-Alps is full, but we still have at least two more years to go till we complete our traverse of the entire mountain range. Check out our dedicated page to the project and put yourself on the Early Interest List for Slovenia next year...or maybe a custom group tour on one of the stages we've already done. We don't mind revisiting awesome places!

Introduction page of Project Trans-Alps, a multi-tour goal of crossing the entire Alps mountain range by bike.

Nice, long last ride in Japan down to Miura Peninsula. Along the way, we stopped at an extremely ornate train station, got a flat tire at the best possible place (beach), and had a mid-ride katsu-don that guaranteed the calorie expenditure did not beat intake.

Our time in Japan is winding down slowly, but we aren't quite running out of new rides to discover. Today we rode to Manazuru peninsula, which sported lovely views over the Pacific Ocean.

In most parts of Japan, you will never be too far from a convenience store. For the cyclist, you can buy an onigiri to keep you going, of course get some water, grab a coffee, use the bathroom, or take some money out of the ATM. These places are also stocked with ready-made meals. You can buy concert tickets or even pay your rent. They are also open 24/7. The "konbini" totally lives up to its name!

We've just had a request from a savvy client to pay their tour balance early. If you are in the US, the Greenback is good and strong compared to the euro right now (nearly parity). Consider this a public service announcement...we are ready to send you a payment email when needed!

More from Izu Peninsula. We weren't riding, but we are always quick to see cycling potential. The hotel we stayed at overlooked a secluded bay and sported its own hot springs - a perfect way to rest tired muscles after a day on the road. A bath with a view, too (see pic #2)!

Izu peninsula is a short distance from Tokyo, but its rough coast and hilly terrain make it feel like another world. It also has some great coastal riding and superb inland roads.

Izu also has plenty of history, both real and fictional. was where Commodore Perry's famous Black Ship forced feudal Japan to open its doors to the "modern" world, and is the fishing village where much of the series (and book, we suppose) Sh**un takes place. **un

As some of you hopefully appreciate when riding with us, it pays to ride with locals. Today, Kazuyoshi took us to his friend's ramen shop ( ) near the ocean. We tried very hard not to order another round. It was as delicious as it was beautiful.

A visit to the Enoshima lighthouse and awesome Fuji view on the way back wrapped up a rewarding day on the roads of Kanagawa prefecture.

We are in our old home of Japan for the next month, getting reacquainted with small spaces, riding on the wrong side of the road, and stopping at red lights! We aren't sure there will ever be a HighRoad Japan, but if enough of you insist, we will never say never!

We knew we had one of the best markets in France, but someone at The Financial Times is thinking even bigger. Nimes has great riding and even better eating!
