We are on a family vacation in Provence this week, but never far from cycling. This is a random cyclist descending out of the village of Venasque.
A little video for those of you joining us for our Extension Tour after L'Étape du Tour de France this July. You will be climbing this monster before the pros do!
The Mistral is blowing in Le Sud, but that means the sky is brilliantly clear. Café crème and pain au raisin finish wrapped up a perfect Sunday morning ride.
Some views from the road on our training ride in the Cévennes today. Col du Pré de la Dame, at 15km, is a mountain not to be taken lightly. Luckily, the legs showed up, and we made it up and back down ;-)
HighRoad Swiss Alps (Aug 31 - Sept 7) is now sold out. If you'd like to be part of next year's TransAlps project (probably Austria), let us know and we'll put you on the Early Interest List.
No more 25km climbs in the backcountry of Nice, but our local training roads still have their charms.
We've written up a little review on the 2024 route on Gerry's cycling blog. Link in bio.

On our last day of this week's reconn, we found out what the organizers have in store for our riders on the last climb of the day in early July - answer: a hill that demands a healthy amount of respect! Your bed is waiting at the top of this one, so you will have extra incentive!
44|5 riders, you will be the envy of the 16,000 strong peloton in July. This is your race day chalet, taken from the finish line. You will be minutes from a cold drink and a hot shower!
Talk about a difficult choice! We can confirm that the route to the left is a great descent. Next time we'll turn right!
Open season on Ventoux from this morning!
On Day 2 of our recce, we dis the outstanding Col de Braus + Col de Turini loop. Etape riders, you are going to have a gorgeous and challenging route in early July.

44|5 Cycling Tours alumni from California taken the other day. Collectively, this group has been riding with us since 2016 on the roads of the French Alps, Provence, the Cévennes, Catalunya, Piedmont, and Lake Como. One of them will be back for this July, and we are working on the rest for one more kick at the bike-tour can in 2025!
We went over to the Ventoux area for some training today and rode past a lot of these guys in full bloom. If you have never had a cherry from Ventoux, you need to visit us in May or early June!
Not a failed selfie, but an early action shot of our new jersey. We've got one in your size...come on over for a fitting!
The next time you find yourself riding in the Chianti hills, make a detour to visit our friends at and pick up some .roads merchandise. You know you never have too many cycling t-shirts!
We found the friendliest craft beer bar in Firenze (or maybe the world!) yesterday. If beer is your thing, Francesco will make sure you get what you need.
A hilly ride into Chianti Classico country this morning. You work for your views (and your post-ride wine) in this part of the world, but it's definitely worth it.
Can you fit a bottle of wine in a jersey pouch?
We've found what will be your first hitel on next year's HighRoad Tuscany - Hotel David. Situated on the south side of the Arno, this comfortable hotel is in a residential area with great local restaurants. Most importantly, they offer an aperitivo of snacks, wine and and beer at the end of every afternoon!
Your view from our first climb out of Florence on next year's HighRoad Tuscany tour. We'll have places to go, but will be sure to stop briefly for the view!
Ponte Vecchio - we probably won't be riding over this, but your HighRoad Tuscany (Spring/Fall 2025) hotel in Firenze will be a short stroll away.
Wherever you go in Tuscany, there is a hilltop village with your name on it.
Our first day of HighRoad Tuscany reconnaissance is in the books. We started where our tour will probably end - in the "Super Tuscan" wine area of Bolgheri. Imagine yourself freewheeling down the alley of cypress trees above after a last day on the bike in the Tuscan hills!

A most memorable meal at a family-run osteria tonight. Maybe the free bottle of Moscato had something to do with it...
Our last day's ride started with a gentle 40 km downhill through the #gorgesdelajonte and #gorgesdutarn. Freewheeling paradise!
