On our last early morning game drive we came across a beautiful Palm Nut Vulture. These birds enjoy eating fruits from Raffia Palms along the riverbanks, but they also eat crabs, locusts, fish, rodents, frogs, and snails.

Unlike other vultures, the Palm-nut Vulture has feathers on its head!

We love our morning bush breakfasts after early game drives. Fresh coffee, delicious food, and wildlife sightings make it a truly unforgettable experience. It sets the perfect tone for our day of adventure in the African wilderness.

Morning game drives are typically in between 5-7 am.
Few predators hunt during the heat of the day, so the early morning is the best time to observe the thrill of the chase.

At first glance, the impala may seem like just another antelope, but it is far more unique. Not only is it the sole species in its genus, but it has remained virtually unchanged for an impressive five million years. While its appearance may be similar to other antelopes, the distinguishing dark stripes running down its thighs and the distinctive structure of its horns make the impala stand out from the crowd. These hollow-bottomed horns are both durable and flexible, with their arched shape serving to minimize the impact of blows during disputes and safeguard the impala’s head from harm.

The black-backed puffback (Dryoscopus cubla) is a species of passerine bird in the Malaconotidae family. They restlessly move about singly, in pairs or family groups, and generally frequent tree canopies. Like others of its genus, the males puff out the loose rump and lower back feathers in display, to assume a remarkable ball-like appearance.

We were lucky to encounter a pack of around 12 African wild dogs on our safari. These rare, tie-dyed canids are amazing hunters with a fascinating social life. Their efficient hunting strategy and complex communication system make them one of the most compelling animals on the continent. African wild dogs are unfortunately facing numerous threats, such as habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.Let’s raise awareness about these incredible creatures and work towards their conservation.

An experience that we will never forget! We (my partner and I) spent a night at Selous Impala Camp, it was a dream! On the 1st Day we were received by Frank (our guide) and our driver, whose name I unfortunately forgot, at the entrance of the park. We had breakfast there directly together and then we did an hour-long safari. In the afternoon we reached the camp and we were overwhelmed by the place and the staff! Everything was considered down to the last detail and each participant tried very hard and was just warm, friendly and in a good mood. In the evening we went on a boat tour over the Rufiji River, we saw a lot of crocodiles, birds and hippos! Frank and the safari and boaters tried very hard to find as many animals as possible. Everyone had a lot of idea and gave us every information about every animal. After that we got a dinner under the starry sky, it was magical. In the tent we had warm water and were well equipped. There was also W LAN. Under our tent, the hippos went up and down.. It was a dream. The next day we had safari all day and were overwhelmed by the animals. We were supplied with cold water and food all day, which was also extremely delicious. We would have liked to have stayed longer and are happy to have had these experiences with such attentive and loveable people! Thanks to Frank our great guide and thanks to the wonderful team!

Hippos open their mouths to cool off, communicate threats, display dominance, and feed on vegetation. It’s a way for them to regulate body temperature, signal aggression, interact socially, and assert dominance within their group.

This calf we saw on our way out on a game drive - sensing some danger in the distance.
When giraffes are feeling alarmed, they can emit a snorting sound. This noise is typically heard when there are potential threats nearby. Giraffes serve as a vital early warning system for other animals in the savanna. If a herd of giraffes suddenly takes off running, it signals to the rest of the wildlife to follow suit and flee from danger.

As you approach the old Impala airstrip and make a left turn onto the final stretch leading to the camp, you’ll be usually greeted by a charming sight - a group of warthogs happily wallowing on the left-hand side.

The common warthog has some peculiar habits that make it stand out. It grazes on bended forelegs, enters its burrow backwards, and trots along with its tail held high like a radio antenna. As an omnivore, it uses its rubbery snout to dig up roots and tubers. It also enjoys wallowing in mud to regulate its temperature and get rid of parasites from its mostly bare skin.

We are delighted to provide you with the tools you need to capture and preserve your memories of this incredible adventure. Each tent is equipped with paper and pens to jot down your thoughts, reflections, and special moments from the day.

In addition to the writing materials, you will also find a Walkie Talkie in your tent. This Walkie Talkie is not only for communication with the camp team but also serves as a means to call the Maasai guides to accompany you to the main tent for dinner.

With its long legs and stealthy demeanor, the Yellow-billed Stork walks through the wetlands. When on the hunt, it stands on one leg, using the other to stir up the water and flush out its prey. With lightning-quick reflexes, the stork plunges its head into the water and snatches up its unsuspecting meal. In a 0.025 seconds, its beak snaps shut, securing its next meal with precision and speed.

On our boat safari we came across this scene: a group of open bill storks standing on a sandy ground with their long legs, and their wings folded in a way that it looks like a ballet performance.
Each stork folds and extends its wings gracefully, the sunlight catching the tips of their feathers and creating a shimmering display.

Open bill storks, also known as African openbills, are fascinating birds that can be found in various wetland habitats across sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia. These large, wading birds are easily recognizable by the unique gap between their mandibles, which gives them their distinctive name.

They primarily feed on aquatic creatures such as snails, frogs, and small fish, using their specialized bills to extract prey from the water. Their diet and foraging behavior make them important indicators of the health of wetland ecosystems.

These storks are social birds that often gather in large flocks, especially during the breeding season. They build their nests in trees or reed beds, and both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the young.

As we ventured through the dense bushes, our photographer , eyes caught a glimpse of a small, fluffy, yet wet from rain showers, creature perched high up in a tree. As we moved closer, we realized it was an African Barred owlet, its distinctive round face and large, dark eyes staring down at us with curiosity.

The owlet seemed unfazed by our presence, as if it was accustomed to sharing its home with curious visitors. Its brown and white feathers blended perfectly with the bark of the tree, making it almost invisible to the untrained eye.

We watched in awe as the owlet turned its head almost 180 degrees, scanning the surroundings for any potential prey.
It was such a nice spotting 🤎

This morning we came across a leopard footprint not far from the camp.
Leopards are known for their stealth and grace, but did you know they also leave behind a unique footprint? The footprint of a leopard is distinctive because of its three lobes at the back of the pad, resembling a horseshoe shape. This helps the leopard move silently through its environment, allowing it to sneak up on prey without being detected. 🐾

Did you know, that Hippos are social beasts, hanging out in groups called schools, bloats, pods or sieges. Schools of hippos usually consist of 10 to 30 members, including both females and males, although some groups have as many as 200 individuals. No matter the size, the school is usually led by a dominant male, according to the San Diego Zoo.

A beautiful sunbird is coming to say hi next to our restaurant.

Sunbird flight is fast and direct on their short wings. Most species can take nectar by hovering like a hummingbird, but usually perch to feed most of the time.

‘The Moon was but a chin of gold’

The Moon was but a Chin of Gold
A Night or two ago—
And now she turns Her perfect Face
Upon the World below—

Her Forehead is of Amplest Blonde—
Her Cheek—a Beryl hewn—
Her Eye unto the Summer Dew
The likest I have known—

Her Lips of Amber never part—
But what must be the smile
Upon Her Friend she could confer
Were such Her Silver Will …
