In Central America, tamales are a beloved holiday tradition. These can be made with masa (corn dough) and filled with meats, vegetables, or beans, often wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves. Here are some ways different countries put their unique twist on tamales 🌟

👉 Guatemala: Tamales de pollo (chicken tamales) are a staple during Christmas celebrations, often accompanied by a rich tomato-based sauce.

👉 Costa Rica: Tamales de cerdo (pork tamales) are popular during Christmas, with a combination of seasoned meats, vegetables, and rice wrapped in plantain leaves.

👉 Honduras: “Tamalitos de cerdo” is a popular and flavorful variety of tamales made with pork. These tamales are seasoned with a variety of spices, including garlic, cumin, annatto, and sometimes a bit of chile, which gives them a rich and savory taste.

👉 Nacatamales (Nicaragua): These are Nicaragua’s version of tamales, often larger and heartier, filled with pork, rice, vegetables, and spices.
