You're a newbie social climber and think ridiculous traffic and big crowds are positive affirmation of a good time. My guests this week are John and Molette Bradley, who live in a container home in Commerce, Georgia. I had the pleasure of meeting them and visiting their beautiful home and homestead in 2017. I also interviewed them then within the space [back when i was ambitious and things. :)], but i unfortunately lost lots of great content and interviews with a site virus.

John was raised in Tuskegee, AL, where he was taught the principles of Booker T. Washington by his grandmother. After semi retiring after 20 years of being a long-distance truck driver and owning a successful trucking business, his uncle introduced him to real estate and the need to own both land and housing. He then bought land and renovated old army barracks into a triplex, which he rented to the community. It was during this time that he also learned building skills and in his search for the best affordable housing option, he decided container homes were the most sustainable and cost-effective option for Black and brown communities.

Having now built several family homes, his and Molette’s goal is to pass on the knowledge in Booker T. Washington’s principle of working with the hands to “produce something” and they’ll share their efforts and journey in this effort with us tomorrow.

Please join us for the conversations that focus less on the aesthetics and more on the individuals. We’ll explore how who the Bradleys are has influenced their journey, achievements and the spaces they’ve created and how their work supports how they see and want to show up in the world.

It’s really so much bigger than just the tiny house...

I now own 24 X 28 garage with studio apartment upstairs that I purchased from Stoltzfus. Great quality and very easy to work with! The delivered it to my property in VA and had the shell built onsite in 4 days (not including cement pad which I did beforehand and a deck I added later.)

I finished the interior (flooring, drywall, electrical and plumbing) myself with my own local vendors as I had the cash available. It was a great way to build!

Welcome to Refuel Irvington.

Refuel is a six unit, tiny home village built within walking distance of Irvington’s shops and restaurants. Our micro-hotel is designed for human scale, rather than auto-centric, vacationing.

Each cottage features a separate bedroom with a queen bed, an efficiency kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, induction 2 burner stove top and more.

Modern touches, such as refined natural wood shelves and bar stools, workspace and comfortable reading chairs give each cottage all the comforts of a larger space in a tidy package.

Each cottage also leads to a private deck for visitors to relax with a cup of coffee or dine al fresco in the fresh air. Additionally, the “Brake Room,” is a shared space with a shuffleboard table, TV, harvest table and nearby grill for you and your spillover friends.
