Songs To Grow On Songs To Grow On is the private music therapy practice and piano studio of Lisa Barnett.

At this time Songs To Grow On is introducing it's first interactive music songbook called "My House." This songbook with an accompanying CD was designed by music therapist Lisa Barnett and graphic designer John Boissy. The book is assembled in a binder and contains room for photographs that tell a unique personal story about each child. The song lyrics allow each child to "fill in the blank" with

specifc words that are meaningful in their life. The child can help select words and photos to include in the book that help them to communicate with others about the special people, things and activities that are important in his or her life. Each book contains a menu board of laminated words that fill in the blanks. As the child sings along with the lyrics he or she can then engage in fastening the laminated words on to various pages in the book. The Cd was recorded with ample response time for the child to sing and/or say the appropriate word that describes each photograph assembled in the book. There is also a special laminated board for creating the child's name and address. If you are interested in ordering a book for the holidays please email me and I will send you all the details.

Great having Meera back from vacation and we began learning a version of "Moonlight Sonata" this afternoon. I always ask if there is anything that she would like to share after our lesson. Today she shared her most recent lego creation, a store that not only includes groceries but clothing too. Her explanation of everything was terrific too!

Congratulations to Stephanie who just completed Book 6 of Occupational Octaves! She is staying in Nantucket with her family for the summer and having weekly lessons. She has been practicing everyday and it really shows. Today we worked on Sonatina in C (Op. 36, No.1, Pt.2) by Muzio Clementi and we worked on the alberti bass sections and it is so lovely to see how this is coming along. Hoping to have a video to show you in a few short weeks!

I am so excited to share this video with everyone! This is my student Lily who is now 11 years old and finishing 5th grade at her elementary school back in Michigan. At the beginning of the school year she told me she was interested in learning a song by "Taylor Swift" and she worked hard and this is the result! Please enjoy her playing "Fearless!" Also parents please note the lovely display of battery operated candles on her piano. Please make sure your candles are in working order for the recital this coming Wednesday June 5th at 7 PM! Congratulations to Lily on a job well done! Taylor would approve! xoxo

Great lesson with Luke yesterday afternoon! He was so proud of himself because he went ahead in his book and figured out how to play "Hot Cross Buns!" He was also able to figure out that the black dot on the left side of the letter B indicated a Bb and played the piece just beautifully! When this happens it is definitely time for a celebratory photo! Great job Luke!

That feeling when you know you have done a great job at your piano lesson! Congratulations to Nick and Joe on another great year of piano! Looking forward to hearing their pieces on Wednesday June 5th! Nick will be performing "Farewell To Fiunary" and "Ceremony For Peace" and Joe will be performing
"Strawberry Malt" and "Moonlight Sonata!"

Please enjoy this beautiful Clementi Sonatina played by Stephanie. She is now on Book 6 of Occupational Octaves and the pieces are getting more challenging. Listen how well Stephanie keeps on going even after making one very minor mistake! This is a huge sign of growth. So often when students make mistakes they immediately want to start over from the beginning. A true professional keeps on going. We will revisit this piece in a few weeks and record it again.
Thank you Stephanie for your willingness to let us hear this piece as a work in progress! 💕🎹🎶

I love this time of year because students finally realize that all those weeks of practicing have paid off! Lily wanted to learn a Taylor Swift piece and she chose "Fearless!" I was so delighted to hear how well she could play the entire piece today. She played all the correct repeats and transitioned seamlessly into the coda. Playing Taylor Swift's music is not as easy as you think because there are lots of challenging rhythms to learn.
Stay tuned because she will be submitting a video that you will be able to hear during our online recital! Congratulations Lily on a job well done! Taylor would approve!

Didn't expect to open up zoom and find Ari wearing a suit!
Wish him good luck tonight as he has a choir concert at Groves High School! It is customary to say "break a leg!" That is an old fashioned way of saying good luck!
