The Northern Lights over the Palouse, 10/07/24.
I should have gotten out just a bit earlier as I only got the red ray in the first two frames I snapped, and only one of them was decent. I relocated to another spot to get Kamiak Butte in silhouette. Photos 2 and 3 show that.

81 years ago today the volcano Paricutín erupted in Dionicio Pulido’s Milpa. My earliest Earth Science memory is learning the story of Paricutín when I was about knee-high to a grasshopper!
I got to the area in 1985 and spent most of the next 6 years spending time in several of the villages and living in Nuevo San Juan Parangaricutíro.

25 years ago today I shot this photo, along the banks of the Rio Grande.
